  1. Look at the BJ Clubman range as well, very competitively priced new R400 Duratec 230bhp
  2. Rob, I've specced and SLR cage on my R400 kit and have been told 'they're easy to fit'. Regardless of CCs claims I've asked them to make sure they drill all the necessary wholes in the side skins ready for me to just bolt it on. If they deliver to my spec. will it still be a pig to fit? Do I need to make any other requests short of asking them to fit the whole thing (which I don't think they will do anyway). cheers, Mike R500 Duratec 230bhp

what size? I have four 6x13" 'caterham compound' which have a couple of trackdays left in them. Let me know if they're any use
  4. thanks Rich, don't suppose you've got any photos of the doors you could send me?
  5. Do CC do half doors which fit when an SLR cage is installed and if not who/how to get the standard half doors modified 🤔 Edited by - MikeE on 23 Apr 2004 15:45:29
  6. Will CC do them on a new car and will it pass SVA 🤔
  7. Peter, If they're as you say (i.e 50% or less worn) then I'll give you £110 for them. I'll send you an email to confirm. cheers, Mike.
  8. and where do you get these 2nd hand slicks from 🤔

I think you'll find some images of it here somewhere here (along with a load of other modified cars that value form over function everytime 😬)
  10. Thanks for the advice everyone Interested in some of the comments about custom made tanks. I was speaking to Tim @ Brise last week and he gave me a '5 minute introduction to dry sump tank design'. He explained that you should have a cylindrical tank with TWO inputs diametrically oposite each other at the top of the tank. These inputs come in at a shallow angle to ensure the oil swirls around the circumference of the tank before settlelling at the bottom, and of course because you have two opposite inputs this helps to maintain this swirl process. This is of course to remove any air from the oil. So according to Brise an ideally a tank should be circular in cross section to aid this process. cheers, Mike
  11. Hi Neil, I understand you too have a stack on your SV, did you have any issues hooking the stack up to the Duratec? cheers, Mike
  12. Nigel, I've done a lot of research into the options for a Duratec and have finally decided to go for a 2.0l 225bhp dry sumped engine and BGH 5 speed gearbox from Raceline (in fact I put a deposit down with them on Saturday ). One of the reasons I chose this option is because Raceline explained that this is a tried and tested configuration (i.e it's been run for some time now in Caterhams and they know it will pass the SVA without any issues). Once Raceline have had the chance to develop their 250/260bhp 2.0l (ported, different cams and forged rods and pistons) and their 250bhp 2.3l then maybe I'll look to upgrade next year. Interestingly enough Raceline will be building a 2.3l SV demonstrator in June. They're provisionally recommending the 2.0l 225bhp (170ftlb) for a standard Caterham and the 2.3l 250bhp (200ftlb) for the SV (it needs the extra torque 😬). If you want more info. mail me off line and I'll send you the details. regards, Mike.

  14. Having thought about the various options for siting the dry sump tank on my Duratec (i.e exhaust on the drivers side) I've been advised to order the chassis with a shorted passenger footwell. Does anyone have any experience of doing this? Does it drastically reduce the leg room for say a 6' passenger? Does it have any other side effects like where do you mount the battery? Also how much do Caterham charge for the priviledge? cheers, Mike
  15. Jackal, Sorry no I don't want it (obviously ) but wondered which box you'd decided to go for? Raceline are looking into the cost of a 'SPC Semi-helical' box (what ever that might be ) to mate with the 2.3l Duratec. cheers, Mike
  16. Same info you'll find on here, cos it's me who posted it
  17. I'm still debatting whether to go for the 220bhp 2.0l or the 250bhp 2.3l Duratech. One of the things which is putting me off the 2.3l is that I'm advised the BGH gearbox won't take the extra torque. Bearing in mind that the BGH should be fine with the 2.0l and that it's relatively cheap (£1,000) I'm now wondering what the options are for an alternative gearbox for the 2.3L 🤔 I guess the criteria are, I don't won't to pay more than about £1,500 and it has to mate directly to the Raceline bellhousing (designed to mate to the CC 6 speed ot the BGH). Any suggestions 🤔
  18. I need to think about the siting of the dry sump tank for my forthcoming R400 Duratec build and need some advice. I have a couple of options as follows: 1. mount a standard (7 litre capacity Pace easi-clean 8.25" x 14" tank) in front of the passenger footwell. 2. have a custom tank made to fit in front of the engine (as Jackals car). So I have a few questions, 1. is option 1 viable, is there space for a tank of those dimensions to be mounted in front of the footwell and will it have clearance under the throttle bodies? 2. Is the 7 litre tank the right size or should I go for a 5 litre (which is 6.5" x 14")? 3. If the answer to 1 is no then I need to have a custom tank made up - could Jackal or Mik advise the spec of this tank and how much it'll cost? cheers, Mike.
  19. Can anyone tell me the cost for a full set of CR500s and ACB10s to fit R500 wheel sizes (i.e 6.5*13 fron, 8.5*13 rear)? thanks, Mike
  20. Nick, Give me a call if you want to come over and see my SL. If we both move a little we might be able to strike a deal Mike
  21. Guys, there's no question about it I am going for a Duratec I'm hoping to order the base engine next week and at this point (given the comments above) I'm going to go for the 2.0l. And as has been said there is always an upgrade path to the 250bhp 2.0l with forged rods and pistons and an 8,000 redline (in fact Raceline told me yesterday that you could safely set the rev limit of the 220bhp 2.0l to 7,500-7,750rpm. cheers, Mike
  22. 135bhp superlight 😬 thing is I don't think I can resist the thought of 250bhp ❗ (I know powers not everything as I have owned two 400bhp TVR Tuscans and we all know how well they perform on track (not)) Logically it should be the 2.0l for the ease of packaging (i.e it'll fit under the bonnet without major hassle) and it's bound to be a bit more revy. My heart cant (won't let me ❗) ignore the though of 25bhp more for only a few pence more. Of course if I were doing this in 6 months time I could try both out, but at the moment the opinions I'm getting are those who have been lucky enough to experience a 2.0l but not the 2.3l as well. Apparently Raceline will be building a 2.3l 250bhp Caterham SV demonstrator in June but that's too late for me ❗
  23. It's easy, you just wash them and then wipe over with something like back to black, they come up a treat. The beauty of bare carbon wings is they are also imune to stone chips . regards, Mike Edited by - MikeE on 1 Apr 2004 20:58:35
