  2. As you will read in the next edition of LF, I watched some of the Seven 170 build and thought that CC might have forgotten a key tool as there was no engine hoist present. And then they showed just how light the engine is to lift by hand (one of the benefits of putting it in separately from the gearbox I guess). Definitely went a long way to showing how the 440kg weight is reached
  3. Thanks for the hard work that had obviously gone into this Graham / team. Can I get the ball rolling with a few suggestions? Class 1 "The 3 cylinder turbocharged 660cc engine as fitted to the Caterham 160, 165 and 170 models." I suggest changing this to "A 3 cylinder... " since the engine used in the 160/165 and the 170 are different. Remove “Single cam engines of 1601cc and greater. Power for these engines is limited to 160bhp” There is no doubt that single cam engines are today in a tiny minority, but as I understand it, this exemption was very specifically put in to create a more level playing field between the power delivery characteristics of older single cam engines against more modern twin cam engines. I’m not aware of it ever having caused an issue so why remove a provision that supports the aim of making the rules “as fair as possible to encourage competition” as per the preamble? (for the avoidance of any doubt, this is not currently of any benefit / advantage to me personally). Driver Aids We talk about classes where these are and aren’t allowed, but do not seem define what we mean by them, which I suspect might be confusing for anyone outside of the competition. Worth clarifying? Club name Will need to be updated throughout
  4. Orangs - let me have your email address and I'll happily also send you a soft copy of the article in question.

  7. Crikey - what a weekend by the look of it. Not quite sure where to start but Bravo to a whole host of competitors
  8. Seven 170 – the new featherweight Seven At a time when most mainstream cars seem to be piling on the pounds, the announcement of Caterham’s “lightest ever production car” comes as a welcome surprise. With a headline weight of just 440kg, the Seven 170 is listed as being 50kg lighter than Seven 160 it replaces. Of course, as an entry-level car powered by a 660cc turbocharged Suzuki engine, it’s not designed as an all-out track weapon, but with 84bhp and 116Nm of torque, the power-to-weight ratio of 170bhp/ton should still make for a very entertaining drive. The Seven 170 is also the smallest Caterham as well — measuring just 1,470mm wide, it’s 105mm narrower than anything else within the current range. Part of the justification for these diminutive dimensions and small engine capacity is, of course, the fact that the model conforms to Japanese Kei car regulations With Japan such a key market for Caterham Cars, and the recent acquisition of the business by VT Holdings, such a move makes clear sense. In a further departure from the 160 which was only available in a single base configuration, prospective Seven 170 customers can choose between two packs, the road-ready 170S or the more stripped back, track-focused 170R whose features include sport suspension, limited-slip differential, composite race seats, four-point race harness and a carbon-fibre dashboard. An added bonus of the pared-back design lies in reduced emissions; ULEZ and Euro 6 compliant, the new model also claims to be Caterham’s lowest emission model, which is likely to become increasingly important in future years. At a time when the pool of available internal combustion engines is shrinking, and emissions regulations are getting tighter and tighter, the launch of this new model has to be excellent news for the future of the Seven. The Seven 160 proved itself to be a highly entertaining car to drive; we plan to get behind the wheel of the Seven 170 in both ‘S’ and ‘R’ Pack finishes for a report in Lowflying magazine very soon. Wiscombe photos

Some nice photos from the weekend from one of the photographers present. Please excuse the somewhat cheesy quote attributed to me (even if it's true!) https://www.facebook.com/WiscombeParkHillclimb/posts/355644926126905
  11. At last weekend's Sandra Harrison-Moore Curborough sprint, I met Steve House who was taking some fantastic photographs, with a view to making them available as prints to raise money for St Giles Hospice in Whittington. A link to his photo album can be found: here He is offering 8x6" prints for just £3, plus £2 to cover postage and packing. To place an order, email stevehouse@virginmedia.com quoting the photo number (LOT xxx)
  12. Trackday Lead Simon Maitland will no doubt be along any moment, but an email to trackdays@lotus7.club and/or a post in the Trackday section here might be a good place to make the suggestion. It's been a few years since I've driven Oulton but agree, it's a great track!

  14. Please spread the word as the weather is looking good and it would be great to see plenty of other members use Curborough as a blat destination. There is a post on BlatChat and we've just put something out on Facebook, but do try to encourage other members along
  15. Tom, remind me what your reg is?
  16. You've just driven past my house three times - hope the rain doesn't get any heavier for you! Anyone on here?
  17. Hi Garth - I had exactly the same thing a few years ago on my Minno when one tyre burst, then the other on the same side failed only 10 mins or so later. I'm not sure what triggered the first wheel to blow (age?) but the problem is that when the first wheel blows, the trailer remains so stable that you don't realise it has until quite a while later, by which time the tyre is completely shredded and has thrown sharp bits of steel belt all over the place, damaging the other tyre in front or behind which fails soon thereafter. The only good news is that I found you can get home fairly well (slowly and carefully) on just 3 wheels (probably not recommended practice however)

Does anyone have any they could send me please? (editor@lotus7.club) Sam Hayto has provided a few from the paddock (thanks!) but a couple more wouldn't go amiss. Many thanks,

  23. The way to check when the chassis was built vs when it was registered is to check the stamp on the top of the rear suspension turret behind the driver's right shoulder. Assuming an Imperial car, it will be stamped AM then two digits, and below J1 or J2. AM is Arch Motors (who build the chassis) and the two digits is the year. J1 or J2 is which of their two jigs the chassis was built on, so if work is needed in future, it goes back on the original one. I love this continuous history!
