    MR2 problems

Little Bill Yes after the poor treatment by the Toyota garage (+ a 50 mile round trip to the nearest) over the 3 years of the warranty my Dad used a local garage who also builds and prepares rally cars . He couldn't resolve the latest problem so he took it to the Toyota garage who wanted £1000 + to supply and fit an ABS pump - this was fitted by the local guy but didn't fix the problem. So went back to The Toyota garage who then fitted a ECU and eventual found the break in the wire. Cheers Curly

    MR2 problems

Little Bill - thanks for trying to help (certainly got alot further than previous attempts) however the response is that this list of issues are wear and tear *eek*. Yes, cars go wrong but the lack of customer care and a letter that was the biggest load of bull s**t - wrong info, standard speal about how reliable Toyota's - nothing about the specific issue. This is now going to Honest John in the Telegraph to share the issues and lack of care. Toyota have lost one current and many other potential customers (My Dad has just bought a new pick up at £26k - guess who wasn't even considered).

    MR2 problems

Will The reg is Y443JVY. Yes it is the sequential gear box, for most of it's life it's been on a battery conditioner. Previous correspondence with Toyota GB PLC between 23/10/2003 and 21/11/2003 their reference 311953 My Dad basically was so p***** off with the attitude he just gave up trying to resolve it further. Thanks Curly Edited by - Curly on 10 Mar 2006 13:05:22

    MR2 problems

My Dad has had a MR2 from new in 2001 and had an ongoing list of problems. Has anyone heard of similar problems or had any joy with Toyota UK - his last communication was at best a brush off where they made assumptions without checking the details They live in the Nth Yorks Moors so although very low mileage it's an infrequently used car rather than short trips - the nearest shop is a 20 mile round trip Car purchased on 11th August 2001. Current mileage approx 10550. 07/08/2002 Battery replaced due to collapsed cell 28/10/2002 Battery won,t recharge traced to Faulty Alternator. Alternator replaced Front & Rear brake discs changed Front & Rear alloy wheels changed due corrosion. 21/08/2003 Battery losing power, traced to faulty starter motor. Starter replaced Front & Rear alloy wheels corroded. Changed on 26/08/2003. 09/10/2003 Car broke down York Toyota where fault diagnosed as failed Power Steering Pump. After waiting for part and then special tool to fit it the car was repaired on 22/10/2003 12/08/2004 Front Disc brakes replaced 08/12/2005 ABS fault light investigated and found to be ABS Actuator fault. 24/02/2006 Car taken to Teesside Toyota after actuator replaced but light still on. Found to be ECU defect. 08/03/2006 New ECU fitted, ABS fault rectified but test now shows a Traction Control Fault Light illuminated. 09/03/2006 Further tests being undertaken to try to determine defect. Thanks for any thoughts Curly
