  1. I've gone down the Maplin route and it works far better than previous alternatives. just wire tie to the crossmember and heat shrink the wires if you are ot drilling the roll bar. From a cosmetic point of view some roll bar lagging on the diagonal covers everything and isn't a bad idea anyway.
  2. Its about the same height and fits under the standard roof OK so I'm guessing it's not a tall one but does seem to have a lot of forward rake on it but thats perhaps because Im comparing it to dedion cars
  3. My 1993 live axle car has an FIA bar on with one diagonal. Looking at photographs of other cars mine seems to lean forwards quite a lot over the drivers head and is pressed hard up against the headrests. I'm just about to order something from softbits and wanted to check that mine was the standard fia bar. From the edge of the windscreen to the centre of the top of the bar is 76cm. Please can somebody confirm the measurement on a similar car. Many thanks
  4. Parked outside the Ramada Gloucester opposite the ski slope with another sevenesque type kit car.
  5. I just bought a roll of the heat resistant matting, the stuff with the silver backing. Wrapped the starter motor with it using metal ties.Out of the same material made a kind of half jacket that shields the top and back of the alternator cut carefully to shape and then stiched or stapled and again held on by metal tie. Finally with what was left rolled some of the heatproof mat around the key wires near the manifolds and either wire tied or heat resistant glued the edge down. done carefully it looks neat and works out a lot cheaper than many of the made to measure bits. From memory the sheet was £20 for a 1 meter square piece from Europaspares and they call it aluminium heatshield carpet wall and this did all of it. Happy to send photois if anyone is interested.
  6. I'm just about to replace the waterpump. Please can somebody advise me if I need to seal the thread where the heater hose joins the waterpump, if so with what or will it seal when I nip it up. Many thanks.
  7. Thanks, Ill double check. Its most noticeable when its pointing slightly up hill on the drive so I will make a point of checking it on the flat as it perhaps just rubs on an incline on tickover when not under load. Mark

  11. I seem to have a timing chain rattle on a standard 1600 sprint crossflow (no internal mods). Is this normal or should I be doing something about it please? Thanks
  12. Heading through Foulridge towards Skipton.
  13. I have one of the late sprint 1600 crossflow engines which was supplied by Caterham in their GTS model. I am told, this unit is 100bhp rather than the normal 110 bhp of the earlier units. Please can somebody tell me does this unit have the same tappet adjustments as the 110bhp version or are they different. If so, please can you let me know what they are. Many thanks
  14. Spotted on Tuesday evenning approx 6-45 near Fence on the Padiham Bye Pass
  15. I am considering the club trackday at Oulton, if places are still available, as my first attempt at track days. Before I enter I just wondered am I like ly to have any issues with the 105db noise restriction? I am running a 94 sprint which is 1600 crossflow on twin 40s with a 4 into 1 side exit exhaust with a techcraft 6inch repackable can. Many thanks.
  16. I fitted one of these from Maplin £9.99. The shape of the surround means they zip tie easily on to the middle of the the diagonal of an FIA bar. Its the 52mm red LED cluster http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?moduleNo=12696&C=Maplin&U=SearchTop&T=red%20led%20lamp&doy=14m3 It also looks identical to the rain light Demon Tweeks sell for £48 here http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=MISURL
  17. Thanks everyone, all sorted now.
  18. Dave I have sent you an email. Thanks
  19. Thanks, they look they stock the kind of thing I am looking for. Does anybody know whether standard live axle is 3/8 or 7/16 unf. Thanks
  20. I am running some Revolution 5 spoke wheels on my live axle. These wheels require the type of nuts with a long sleeve that sits inside the wheel. Does anybody know where I can get hold of 4 and what I should ask for in terms of part number or measurements. Alternatively if anybody has any lying around in the garage for sale please let me know. Thanks
  21. Thought you maybe interested in this as an alternative. Having had many failed fluid pressure switches and also read the posts about patchy performance on the plastic mechanical switches I fitted a spring loaded mechanical switch from autoelectric supplies 2 years ago and it hasn't missed a beat. You simply mount the switch to the back of the pedal box and then attach the end of the spring with the bracket provided to the rod coming out of the master cylinder and thats it. It is a well made brass type structure that I just oil once a year when I take the pedal box cover off. Let me know if you want a photo. Link below should take you straight to the item number. http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product/185 and this is the link for the rubber cover that goes over the mechanism. http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product/186
