  1. Has anyone attempted to change the speedo oil seal on a 6 speed box without removing the gearbox from the car,i only need to replace the seal nothing else. Whats the best way of getting the old one out without damaging the seating or spindle of the drive? i seem to remember that the seal was a very tight fit and had to drift it in with a socket when originally fitted. Alternatively as the drive is redundant ( car has a Stack ) does anyone know of a permanent way of sealing this outlet off ? A top hat closer retained with a circlip would seem to be the answer.
  2. Mike Not a template but if you send me a mail address i can send some photos that might help. I actually fitted mine by trial and ( no ) error , basically stuck them in place ,adjusted to see what i could see, moved them again etc. Once i had settled on a position i straightened the arms a minute amount to make sure the mirrors were horizontal when adjusted correctly and before i drilled the holes..Had to do this because the arms only move a certain amount in thier sockets and all the angles didnt work in the position i wanted them for best rearward visibility. ps make sure you drill a third hole in the middle so that you can acess the adjustment grub screw.
  3. "Not sure why my stack keeps reporting a max speed of 400+ mph?? Maybe this is due to poor ground/earth " If you find out please post.Mine reads speed fine but 25% of the time the max speed is shown at some such rediculous figure.the instantaneous figure is fine.
  4. Standard fan switch for a current K is about 90 on 84 off ,I say about because they are not very accurate and suceptable to failure.Running at 60 seems wrong. Is the temperature sensor for the guage working properly ?
  5. Dump it.Had one on my last car but ordered the R400 without.Never missed it.If its really cold i.e.snow you dont tend to use the Caterham,in the spring aqnd autumn there is enough heat from the transmission tunnell to prevent exposure. Engine bay looks neater too 😬
  6. Sorted apparently i had an R500 switch which operates at 75 degrees.
  7. When i took my car to caterham for the PBC they fitted some rubber wedges behind the fog and reversing lights before they took it for SVA .I suggest that you ask them to supply you with some. Not sure why they didnt fiit them when they fitted the lights before delivering the kit.( out of stock ?)
  8. Bob I had the opposite problem,it wouldnt scroll at all. This was traced to a faulty switch, they dont seem to be very robust and it sounds as though yours is still making contact even though it isnt being pushed.Pull the wires off the back of the switch and see if this cures it.If so then a couple of quid for a new switch should sort it.
  9. The problem doesnt seem to be the engine overheating ( 80 ish is Ok isnt it ? ) more the fact that the fan doesnt go off ,even on the motor way .
  10. Can anyone tell me what temperature the fan switch should operate at ? both switch on and switch off temperatures .The stack is telling me that the water temp is between 80 and 85 degrees on my R400 depending on whether the car is sat in traffic or on a run ( hot day ) once the fan comes on it doesnt seem to go off.Drove back to London from North Wales yesterday ( thats another story ) and every time i stopped the fan was on even if temp was at 80 .Fan doesnt run when engine is cold. Do they all do that sir? Edited by - Mark w on 18 May 2004 10:42:41
  11. When i first start mine from cold ( which needs a foot on the throttle pedal slightly ) and first try to either drive or blip the throttle the engine "dies" as the throttle is opened. It only does this for the first minute or so and doesnt stop running ,there is just a very large flat spot. After the first sixty seconds it is fine.I dont have any problems starting it and i havent noticed it running on three cylinders.700 mile R400 so similar to yours i suspect.
  12. Chris Thanks for the quick response , what would we do without Blat Chat ? Where do i find the IACV ?
  13. I have been trying to help a friend sort out an intermittent problem on a 2002 EU3 1600 supersport. So far to no avail. Symptoms are as follows.Try to start the car and it is hesitant but eventually fires.Yellow change up light in the top of the rev couner stays on ( signifying ECU fault ? ) and car will not idle unless foot is kept on the throttle and the revs up.After a couple of minutes the light goes out and the engine then runs normally. This seems to happen whether hot or cold. Have tried all the usual obvious things such as wiring connections and earths but to no avail. Caterham have suggested that it may be a duff battery but the Banner has always been on a trickle charger and has no problem coping with the cranking of the engine. Any ideas?????
  14. From the sounds of it you have the bracket in the wrong place.the caliper bolts are removed, the bracket placed against the caliper and the bolts replaced. It doesnt go between the caliper and the upright.the end of the spigot bit is 3 or 4 mm from the hub nut heads ,the sensor needs to be about 1 mm away to register the input. try a search, this came up some time ago and someone posted some pictures.
  15. Sorry forgot to say -----£25 including postage
  16. What it says above plus to suit wide track . Unused and still in the Caterham plastic bag.Just the bar,no bushes or ball ends . Im not near a computer tomorrow so ring 07770 920 890 if interested.

    Half Doors

I suggest that you pop off to dartford and buy some ! Your unlikely to get any here 🙆🏻
  18. I suspect it would be more like £25 to 26,000 from Caterham. They will however put it in their showroom on a sale or return basis and give you whatever it sells for less their margin which is likely to be 2 to 3 K on a car of this price. If you can find a private buyer then you might get £27,000 ish graham,is the cover a cotton in-door one ? if so want to sell separately, you wont get any more for the car with it !
  19. All to do with the technical principle of FOB OFF pumping the pedal will temporarily compress the air in the system,as soon as pressure is released the problem returns.
  20. Franky my R400 has only done 200 miles and whist the brakes were spongy to start they are fine now.It is possible to lock up the fronts quite easily on a damp road.Caterham re-bled the brakes at the PBC and there was a noticable improvement,i suggest that you try the same.
  21. Does anyone know if the toad immobiliser fitted to current Caterhams is Thatcham Cat 1 or 2 ? MSM seem to think its cat 1 but i am not so sure and would hate to have an argument about an incorrect proposal form after its knicked ( 🙆🏻)
  22. Mike i recently used the CBS black " gunge " to fix my front wings,no problems still on after a few motorway trips and a lot of water.about £13 including post for a tube i think.Once opened it tends to go off quickly so do all those odd jobs at the same time.
  23. details as follows Mark.Weatherby@appleyardandtrew.co.uk
