Ok, i've gone for the K series chassis to academy spec,ie shortened passenger compartment & no tyre carrier on the back as it seems to be more track focussed. Any comments on this before I commit to it? Is there any major differences between an Acadmey chassis & a roadsport A or B chassis that might stop me running in this championsip If I wish to go that route? I'll choose whether to go for a 1.6 or 1.8, 5 or 6 speed this weekend. So far I'm leaning towards adding a carbon dash, widetrack,Apollo Tank & LSD & FIA Cage If I do build with used parts & have it on a q plate rather than a current reg, how will it affect it's value if I need to sell it on? I plan to keep it but I'd like to be able to make an informed choice. I've wanted one of these since I was a kid & i can't wait to get stuck in. Spoke to CC, apparently the only differences between the Academy chassis & the Raodsport is the Academy has the redcued passenger footwell to allow fitment of the battery lower down ^ also does not have the spare wheel holder, might specify it to this spec anyway so it would be eligibli if I decide I want to race it. How much smnaller is it & is it worth it & can the tyre radck be removed at a later date? Would this affect the SVA rules? Am I right in thinking that I could fit a 1.6K & upgrade to A 1.8 later on, ie same fitment? duatec is what I was thinking, but that might rule out running in Grads or Mega grads which is where I might race if I decide to go that route. Above all, the engine needs to be easy to maintain, good power from stock & not be too stressed when pushed hard XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future

I've just placed an order for a starter kit, delivery is the end of this month! I need to confirm the spec by tomorrow to ensure March delivery & have a load of questions that I really need help on. The car is primarily going to be used for track tuition & hire & for my personal use as well & maybe to race in 2006. I have a VERY tight budget & don't want to spend a fortune on parts that I just won't need or use, but also want something that has a clear upgrade path & something that will remain sellable in the future. I'd also appreciate any thoughts on how to save money, i'd like to SVA it but don't like the thought of sourcing all these bits from CC, again on money grounds! Gearbox - 5 speed or 6 speed, the 6 would be nice but budget worries me Engine - Zetec, K series (i'd like a 1.8 preferable for ease of uprgrade), Duratec Any help would be appreciated XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future

I'm open to all engines incl VX but i'm conscious of future upgradeability & i might dabble in some racing & all points to the K at the moment. I tend to look at all options and go down all avenues & then usually end up going back to the beginning and going that way, so I still might build if something doesn't come up that fits the bill. i'd prefer a Caterham for 2 reasons, firstly because I've wanted one since I was 12 & from my limited knowledge of 7's they seem to be the best. I also might race it later on & Caterham's are much better supported than Westfields or some of the other kit cars. Most of the cars i've seen at the lower (preferred) end of my budget have all the right track goodies but have Xflow or VX engines, hence my questions on engine swaps as I want something that is also modern in terms of engine technology. I'm going to keep searching for now but the cash is burning a hole in my pocket & the mrs has her eye on a conservatory so I need to act quickly! There's just so many different types it's unreal. All I want is a car set up car primarily for track that is in good condition, easy to maintain, has an upgrade path that is not from the dark ages & is between 10 - 13k. I've done some research and the VX engines seem superb, I was more concerned about upgradeabilityt and didn't want to be stuck with technology that was old hat. How easy would it be to upgrade from a 1600 8v to 2000 16v then as if I do buy an 8v engine this would be the logical upgrade path before looking to sell for something newer XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future

I'm just considering my options, I've been offered a 16v Vauxhall engined car & there are quite a few for sale that are reasonably priced, but also want something that will still be up to date in a few years time, so was considering an engine swap. I should have put a bit more detail in this post really, my budget will not stretch to Superlights. Ideally i'm looking for something no older than 3-4 years, a Zetec, Duratec or K series, something not massively tuned, but needs to have some track goodies & be easily maintainable XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future
