  1. Cheers, i'm 5ft 10 & 16 1/2 stone, could do with shedding a stone but the tillets I tried I couldn't even get my hips into, you could say that i'm front row material! Will look into the alternatives XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future
  2. Ok, before you all laugh, yes I know i'm a bat fastard! *wink*I'm looking for a race car and i've noticed that I cannot fit in the Tillet seats on the ones I've looked at. I've driven a few cars that did not have tillets & I was fine. How much bigger are the standard seats & is there anything that is as wide but equally as supportive? Race car

I'm looking for a Grad / Roadsport race car. It needs to have the CRD chassis to make it eligible for Roadsports A at a later date. I'd prefer something no older than 3 year old & something that is not showing signs of too much battle. My budget is 13k max. XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future
  5. They didn't tell me that! XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future
  6. I know this guy & he's a lotus specialist & a very decent bloke too. XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future
  7. This seems perfect for what I want, don't suppose you fancy knocking off 4k?!?! 😬 XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future
  8. Yes it was good of them, they're going to keep an eye out for an ex race car for me so they hopefully will get a sale instead. It's definitely the right way to go & will be looking at a few this week, but still would have liked to build my own, just have to take it apart & rebuild it instead. 9. yes, i've noticed, will start searching for decent 2nd hand car as CC have agreed to refund my deposit & cancel the starter kit XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future
  10. You know what guys,i'm going to see if I cancel my order in the am & do just that. I'd like to build one I really would but with my budget i'm going to end up with something that is not suitable for what I want. I have only paid the £1000 deposit at this stage, how likely is it that CC will refund this? XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future Edited by - Topwelshman on 7 Mar 2005 22:53:06
  11. I might do some grads, i've seen some of the races & they're well run & very competitive. XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future
  12. Some of you might have been following my recent posts on engines & chassis for racing & i'm nearly upto speed & have one last question before I feel i am able to make an informed decision. The problem I have had from the start is that I cannot afford at this point to build a Roadsport from a complete knockled down kit & wanted to source the engine myself. This renders the kit uneligible for racing in Roadsports as they specify that it has to be a CRD which means a complete knocked down kit. My chassis is being built to Academy spec (ie shortened footwell & no spare wheel carrier) & CC have agreed to supply me with a CRD chassis no. if I buy all their parts even if I source the engine myself. However, the cost to do this way is not far short of a complete kit. So, i'm considering going for the classic package on the basis that CC have stated that the chassis is identical & I don't need the weather kit / heater anyway & it represents much better value & I can just about afford it. Is this sound thinking? Is the 1.4 dire in comparison to the 1.6 XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future
  13. I was wondering the same thing! The more I look into these cars the more I realise that some of the margins are rather large! XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future
  14. Where can I buy (other than CC) new XR4i 5 speed Gearboxes. Also, where can I find decent low mileage reconditioned K series? XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future
  15. I understand that but it's not as if they make the the engine is it? I know it's oversubscribed that it's still not sporting. Cheers for your help by the way XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future
  16. Yes,i've seen it & have a put a few posts up asking for advice. Yes, i'd want to go for RS Inter or A & have not had confirmation from them yet that it would be eligible, only Graduates have confirmed it would be ok. It doesn't make sense, if my car would be eligible for Grads & you can upgrade a grads car to a Roadsports, then why can't my car be eligible if I source the engine & gearbox myself?? £3,500 for a K is extortionate when I can get a decent very low mileage one for less than half that XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future Edited by - Topwelshman on 6 Mar 2005 11:12:21 Edited by - Topwelshman on 6 Mar 2005 11:14:07
  17. I might be interested in a cheap K series, can you email me on info@xlmotorsport.com XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future
  18. Too late, I went for a K on the basis I could race it next year if I want!! The graduates have confirmed that as long as its to the same spec then it will be eligible, still waiting to hear from Roadsports & this is where I would want to go! If sourcing the engine & gearbox mysellf prevents me from racing then I might cancel the order. 🙆🏻 XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future Edited by - Topwelshman on 5 Mar 2005 19:38:55

  20. It's good business especially considering the numbers racing, but, it's not sporting. We have scrutineers to ensure the cars are fit & to spec so there's no need for them to control the flow of parts. I can't see the difference between building it yourself using parts sourced from elsewhere as long as those parts are the same as fitted to other cars & are Caterham parts. I was thinking along the same lines about getting around the new parts bit XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future

  22. It's all a bit confusing....The R400 Regs clearly state that you can't upgrade from a standard road car to the spec & the Roadsport Regs say that the chassis has to be one of the following CRD98RK CRD01.5RK CRD02RR CRD03RR Looking at the chassis nos. i'm reading this to mean that it has to be a "Completely knocked down" kit not a starter kit, which I think means that i'd have to have a full kit of all parts incl the engine from them to be eligible. In the Graduate Regs it states "All cars must use the standard Caterham chassis & bodywork as originally supplied for cars manufactured to comply with these regulations" I've sent clarification to CC as this seems to imply that I cannot race if I source the parts mysef. This would seem highly unfair & tie you into spending more money than needed with CC & that is not sporting. Any comments? XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future
  23. Hi Dave, I was all set to come & then had a problem on site & had to go to Oxford to sort it out. I was really looking forward to meeting you all & picking your brains. I want to raod reg it so i can blat about on sundays, residuals are a concern but I suppose only really matter if the drop in the RV is proportionately alot more than the reduction in build cost. Didn't realise it was 2 major components, I thought it was only 1, that offers alot more scope for savings XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future Edited by - Topwelshman on 4 Mar 2005 11:30:45
  24. cheers guys, i'll make some calls today. I'll have to do some research on Q plates. If I was looking to buy 2nd hand I wouldn't want a Q plate unless it was substantially cheaper so it might be a case of pay more for a current plate now but get it back at the other end, in which case there's no real saving. But, on the other hand it'd be nice now to have it built to a budget.Mmmh! XL Motorsport....Racing into the Future
