  1. I've had a full size stick on plate for several years and no problem. Warmed it up with a hairdryer when putting it on so it had some stretch in it and it went on without any wrinkles. Mine might have come from Ireland too. I'm told that at speed I may experience reduced downforce without the original plate, but I'm too slow to confirm that...
  2. Just replaced mine last week and same issue. As per scottr400d and robjones, just relieve the bolt hole in the uj (very little required) and it's fine.
  3. Had a closer look at the old uj - the rubber "cush" parts appear a little cracked, dried and generally cooked compared to the new one - anyway it hasn't come back to life after a good soak. Thanks again for suggestions
  4. Shiny new UJ now fitted and steering much improved. I think i need to adjust out some play in the rack [sounds like a tedious job] but steering is now much lighter and self centering has returned. Tried some oil on the old uj but no improvement - I've left it soaking to see if it would come back to life. Also put a little oil on the spherical joints ( but as suggested, was a bit worried about encouraging the grot to stick to the bearing surface. Thanks all :)
  5. Dear all, thanks for suggestions. Shiny new uj arrived from caterham - much smoother action than the old one, so hopefully that's the culprit....
  6. there's the UJ - its noticeably stiffer in one plane than the other, despite a soak in silicone lube, but it looks like i've got some other investigations to carry out ...
  7. Good idea - I'll have a go at posting some pics later. It's been stiff (heavy with limited self-cente) for a while but has worsened noticeably. No impacts. just tried the steering with the uj disconnected and it's better but not great - guess I'll have to look at the rack next.....
  8. Hi all. Just trying to track down source of sticky steering on my 97 vx. I have the uj off and it's pretty stiff, but I'm not sure if it's supposed to be - anyone have experience of stiffness in this area?
  9. I used POR15 a while back and it seems pretty resilient [but as above, a bit shiny]. If you use it make sure you wear gloves. And a hat. And keep the cat out of the garage...
  10. Hi, sorry for late reply - been away. All arrived. Many thanks for organising. - Do I have to fit them myself? ian
  11. OK if I pass your email address to him - or BM me your phone number and I'll get him to give you a call. He got off his SP2 at relatively low speed I'm glad to say, but fast enough to write it off. He's certainly interested anyway Cheers ian
  12. Hi - looks gorgeous. A friend of mine has recently crashed his SP2 and he's looking for a new toy. He's only over here in Dover so I'll run this past him - Ian
  13. You haven't got a high level brake light plumbed in with the CC sub-loom have you? - I had a similar episode which I traced to a faulty sub-loom. PITA until I worked it out..
