  1. I had an K series R300 in 2004 which had 15" wheels as I felt it looked better. I now have a 420R with 13" wheels (6" on the front and 8" on the back) and it definitely rides better than my R300 did. However I didn't track my R300 and have yet to track my 420R. The 420R is, in my opinion, very easy to drive on the road thanks to the Duratecs characteristics (lots of torque etc)....with the caveat that you cannot explore the performance. As its likely to be relevant to the comments above I have 5 speed not 6. Good luck with the new car !
  2. Sunday in Sainsburys car park - packed up with lots of gear !
  3. I second the fuel comment above - the manual specifies a minimum of 15 L I believe. I tried to start my new 420R with 10 L in the fuel tank and it was having none of it. Cannot comment on the oil pressure as my car is dry sumped however I wouldnt start it without some incling of pressure if it were me. Good luck.
  4. Orange, Green, white & red ! Hope you all enjoyed the millions of pounds of cars on display !
  5. H17 - Morris Drive....I was behind in black Audi.
  6. I have had some correspondence with CC about the whistle - which they refer to as a 'chirrup'. As mentioned above by others it is 'simply caused by the airflow in the induction system when you open the throttle a certain amount, which effectively causes it to 'whistle'. It is not a cause for concern'. Earlier cars did not have this as they have an earlier design of plenum which was unsustainable due to manufacturing/QC issues. CC had to be redesign and retool to deliver the current plenum....which has an idiosyncratic whistle. Hope this helps.......sounds like a reason to upgrade to throttle bodies
  7. It was mentioned in passing at CC that the airbox manufacturing process has been changed and that they had noticed some new 'sounds' but I don't have any further details.
  8. In my case the noise is not there with the bonnet removed - if it was whistling due to partially opened throttle body why does it disappear ? Cheers Martin
  9. Hi Chris I have a newly built 420R and have the same issue - its rather annoying ! Going to take it to CC for resolution. Cheers Martin
  10. Hi all Am in the process of building my 420R - want to go down the sticking the front wings on route; likely to go directly for the wing stays although I do have some bighead fasteners left over from first build. I have previously used Sikaflex 292i and wanted to again but cant find any in black (only white) - being lazy I dont want to paint it ! However there is an abundance of 291i in black available. Has anyone got any experience of 291 ? The description says its a combined sealant and adhesive vs 292 being adhesive only. Cheers Martin

  15. Yes - we are one and the same. Let me know how you get on otherwise the offer of a visit still stands (weather permitting - I'm a fair weather blatter !). Marty R300 YES
  16. I'm based in Billingshurst W Sussex if you want to come and look at mine - altenratively I may be able to bring it to you at the weekend. Regards, Marty R300 YES
  17. Have got a toad powerkey - have taken the key fob away for hours and still problem remains...........no fuel pump activity yet all other electricals seem to be functioning as expected. Help.................. Marty R300 YES
  18. Went to start R300 this morning and it wouldn't go. Immobiliser disarms, all electrics seem active, engine turnsover but won't start. Fuel pump is not priming - have checked fuses for pump and ECU and all are OK. Checked inertia switch and even bypassed it but this didn't make any difference. Meter shows that pump is not getting power and no reading on yellow/green wire where it joins engine loom or at inertia switch. Suggestions please - is this ECU, MFRU or immobiliser or something else ??? Thanks, Marty R300 YES
  19. In case your dampers are creaking you could try some silicone spray ?? Worked for me. Marty R300 YES
  20. Bolt them through holes in the floor of the car - I have a few unused holes in the floor of my R300 and am going to use those. Marty R300 YES
  21. A friend with a new R300 had this problem - took a while to track down but it was the universal joint connecting the column to the rack. Replacments are on the CC website but not cheap so maybe you could borrow one to see if its this ??? Marty R300 YES
  22. Pete, Thanks for the advice - unfortunately I'm in Sussex but really appreciate the offer. Marty R300 YES
  23. I had my cam timing set by Dartford - when it went to CC South they said it was out by 1 tooth - when it went back to Dartford (1 week later) they put it back again. So I'm not sure what's correct but it didn't make a blind bit of difference to performance or driveability. Marty R300 YES
  24. Thanks for all of the suggestions - car has only done 2K miles so I'd be surprised if its track rod ends already. Tyres are new CR500s - there is no sign of delamination. Do not get any clonks so do not suspect universal joint. Will try U clamp. Had wheels balanced at weekend and they were out however correcting this has not affected wobble. Garage tell me that incorrect toe-in would not cause this problem. Will keep posted on progress............ Marty R300 YES
  25. Am about to fit the tonneau to my R300 - have had some 'ears' for leather seats with headrests sewn into it by Jill Judd and they look fab. Anyway I obviously need to add some fasteners to the body. Currently I do not have half doors but this may be an addition in the near future to complement my aersocreen. I believe that the half doors use the same popper fastenings - is this true as I'd only like to have one set of fasteners in the correct place for doors and tonneau cover ??? Anyone got any useful measurements or should I 'borrow' some half doors and check positioning accurately ?? Thanks, Marty R300 YES
