  1. I can confirm that it was the speed sensor. This had shorted and then instrument blown fuse - same circuit as the speed sensor apparently. Caterham have fitted a new style speed sensor (car is only 6 months old - 1200 miles) and replaced the fuse and all is working. Will have to see whether new style sensor is more robust :)
  2. Hi Jonathan, thanks - just read the other thread - it does seem that my problem is linked to the very recent speedo sensor dropout. Perhaps it shorted and fused another circuit (or maybe the instruments are on same fuse). Since it’s drivable (but no indicators) I’ll take it back to caterham tomorrow - luckily they are just round the corner from my work :) I’ll post on here if they figure it out. Otherwise, I’ll buy a multimeter!
  3. Hi All, I had a speedo dropout problem with my almost new 310 (sigma engine) that was fixed recently in service at Caterham South by moving speed sensor on the axle - but this dropped out (zero reading) again today when I went over a bump. A few minutes later, I lost all instruments - revs, temp, pressure, fuel. Also the indicators don’t work and the odo readout on the speedo has gone blank (whereas before, it still read the mileage). The lights and hazards are fine as are the instrument/switch lights and the car runs and starts no problem. The heater fan was on at the time. any ideas? I’m thinking it’s just a bad connection somewhere... Thanks in advance. jake
  4. Have sent you message re tonneau cover
  5. Hi All, thanks for your suggestions. Derek at Caterham told me to just try and start it so I did (ie, reconnected inertia switch so fuel pump functioned). It started first time! And straight up to 4 on the oil pressure. i have a feeing that because I was holding the key round to the third position as well as pushing the start button that this was forcing the dials to zero when cranking engine with inertia switch disconnected - can't be sure though! i also added another 10 litres of fuel (up to 20 l in total) and eventually the fuel gauge started to read properly (about 3/4 full). it seems that the idle is set too low (1000rpm) so the engine cuts out straight away without pushing the throttle. I can't immediately see a way to adjust the idle speed so just pulled on the throttle cable sleeve to keep it going at 1700rpm - also allowing engine to get hot til fan kicked in. Took surprisingly long time to get up to 90 C! Also alarming amount of smoke coming off the exhaust components as they got hot for the first time! Is the idle setting the small sprung screw behind the lever on the throttle bottle body? all the electrics seem to function as intended too - which I was pleasantly surprised by!
  6. Hi All, trying to start my 310S for the first time. what is the key/push button sequence? - it seems that most times I turn the key right round then the immobiliser light flashes vigorously and pushing the big red button doesn't do anything. when I am able to turn the engine over (with inertia switch disconnected), the engine is turned over nicely at 1100 rpm by the starter motor. however, there is no oil pressure building up - even cranking several times for 30 seconds each go. Any ideas why not? I noticed that the oil pressure dial does set to zero when the ignition is set - it just doesn't move after that :) where is the oil pressure sensor? Maybe I haven't got it connected properly. also, the fuel gauge isn't reading anything even with the 10l I just put in... maybe that's related! thank you all for your help in advance!
  7. Great. Thanks Jim. There is a roll of cheaper looking hose in the box so I guess I'll use that as I've not got enough of the J and L pieces left!
  8. hi All! building my first caterham - an orange sigma 310 S. its going pretty well but the manual seems hopeless for the cooling hoses for my particular model. there is no mention of the two hose connectors that come out of the LH engine behind the oil filter. I think this is an oil cooler called a modine (doesn't seem to be fitted on lower power sigma engines covered in the manual). does this get plumbed in between the T-piece coming out of LH side of engine (other end going to expansion bottle) and the heater outlet if that's the case then I don't have enough 5/8th hose or 25mm hose clips! thanks for your help. Jake
