  1. Ital axle as supplied modified (stiffened) by Caterham. 3.9 differential ratio, complete with drive shafts and spare draft shaft, brakes, drums and linings and brake hydraulic lines. Little use but requires cleaning and oils/fluids replacing. £250. Buyer collects. (Previously advertised but buyer backed out through lack oftransport!) At 23 March - Doesn't anyone need this axle!! Might give it away to clear garage!! Post reply if you need it! Edited by - dee pee on 24 Mar 2012 11:58:29
  2. Can't guarantee condition but know that it has done a very low mileage. The axle came as a spare with the Seven that I bought 6 years ago, and which I have just sold. As it's a complete axle would have thought it a bargain at £250. To help I might negotiate price! Call me on 07980 199536

  4. Paul and Russ of the Black Country Three - guessed it was you paul! Meet up this Sunday, without Russ, at the RH.
  5. POBC - Does anyone know of any company that still makes these? The short solid pin with a machined flat and short thread on one end with nut and washer. A chum is trying to source them, used to secure wishbone arms onto top and bottom bracket on an elderly Alvis.
  6. paul, Yep did see you and could hardly miss you in that yellow missile! Couldn't reply on the forum, so have sent you and e mail.
  7. I'm in Stourbridge and often passing throught Halesowen. Why don't I never see another Seven locally? Mind you it might be because I'm retired and do most blatting in the week!
  8. No, Quantum in Devon is the old kit car manufacturer, which moved from Stourbridge some years ago. If you called them they'd give you their old address/tel. no. in Stourbridge which you could then call
  9. The old Quantum sports car works, a mile from where I live in Stourbridge seem to make these enclosed tops, as I've seen them in the yard when passing. Think that they're still made under the name of Quantum.
  10. Glad that someone knew the correct name for BMTR! I've used them since the 60's, but that shows my age!
  11. I've just done this bush replacement job on both sides of my 95 Supersprint. I had to do the job when a lorry driver in a laybye spotted that the top arms were coming off the rubber bushes on each side, as the front washer on the through bolt pressing on the arm to retain it, had never been fitted at initial assembly! That was a frightener! 'Twas an awkward job and I agree wholeheartedly with the previous comments.
  12. Not too much of a problem. Make a 10mm wide surround of 12G ali sheet as someone has already indicated. The shape can be got from impressing a sheet of stiff brown wrapping paper in two halves to the top and bottom of the hole thro which the exhaust exits. That gives the inside curve. Transfer that to ali sheet with the outer radius of plus 10mm all round. Trim and file/polish to finish. It works - i've just done one.
  13. Have just re built my crossflow 1700/138 BHP. Ran in with mineral oil as suggested for 1000mls not exceeding 3000RPM, but absolutely no labouring of engine. Changed oil back to semi synthetic, and then no more than 4000RPM. After 2000mls will then up RPM to 5000. These are how engines used to be run in. Modern engines that rev, need use from the start. Honda had many issues with aged owners (like myself) trying to run them in the traditional way. They never got run in and used copious quantities of oil subsequently resulting in claims for engine wear!
  14. Just finished a 1700 Xflow piston and head re build. Whilst honing the bores is best, if the bores are in good condition, the use of wet and dry in the bores is permissable (that'll cause a few comments!). Bores and bearings must be well protected though and a compressor is useful . Don't just re ring the pistons, as the pistons, unless they're forged will have worn at the lands between the rings. Buy a new set of AE cast pistons complete with fitted rings ang gudgeon pins, balance equally, and fit carefully into the bores. I've run mine in for 1000miles at not exceeding 3K RPM and it hasn't blown up yet!
  15. Having read all the above I think my SPARE Caterham modified Ital axle (3.9) with about 500 miles on the clock must be worth more money now. The Ital in the car has done 23K miles with 138BHP and no noise and no drive shafts replaced. I was warned early on years ago that v soft tyres knacker drive shafts pretty quickly!
