  1. My car (built by mic) certainly gets to a nice 80 plenty quick, and doesn't really budge above that, maybe touching 90 on track. The highest I have seen the oil is about 110 on a very hot day and 30 minutes on track, otherwise more like 90. No problems in traffic jams (apart from burnt leg if you wear shorts!), and the fan gets the temp straight back down when it cuts in. I assumed it was the standard triple pass radiator. I can't see why a slightly bigger engine would require more cooling to merely idle - the power output is surely very similar.

    engine run-in

I had a Radical with a Powertec full race engine and it was definitely recommended to do a "power bedding" run after rebiuld - basically a schedule of full load full revs and then closing the throttle many times. Or you could pay to spend some time on their chassis dyno or rolling road dyno. Rebuild when compressions dropped. My Caterham Duratec engine was run in by Mountune on an engine dyno - much nicer to use full power on the road/track from the word go!
  3. Don't you CSR260 owners find having 6 gears is too much anyway? I have a CR 5-speeder with 250+ duratec and seem to spend very little time in each gear anyway! Is the a torque chart of the CSR260 anywhere yet?

    engine run-in

I thought a motorway is a bad idea since the revs and load don't vary, so you end up glazing the bores instead?
  5. Sigh - we've been through this already - and you're not interested in looking at it, or talking to the people first hand. So it's going to be hard to convince you. That the contact patch of the tyre on the roller is much closer to that on the road should be clear just from the increased diameter of the roller, and not needing to use extra weight means no extra tyre distortion - but you don't even accept this argument. From my point of view, the number match the engine dyno, and I very happily remapped my car on them with less drama than I've had on other roads. So, it's not pub talk - it's my real-life experience. danny
  6. Sorry - I meant vs the TaT road where extra weight is not required. I agree sitting on the back can be scary!
  7. Dave, The Road'n'Track TaT road is actually owned by the other Steve. Steve Greenald works in collaboration with Steve P who does the driving. I agree this road is the way forward - I don't know why AMMO thinks having to put loads of weight in the boot to stop wheelspin is such a great thing!
  8. Does anyone have any pictures of this?
  9. Dave, Peak torque on mine was 193lbft just below 5800, but more relevantly, it's over 180lbft from 4500 to over 7000 - as Mick said - this is with 270 cams. I'm not sure I'd like the powerband starting at well over 5000 which is why I'm curious to see the dyno chart from the 280 cam engines. As for overtaking cars on track - power is surely almost irrelevant considering the variables of tyres, skill and circumstances (e.g. on cool down or warm up). :-p
  10. Would also be interested to see how the mid range torque compares to our cooking 250bhp versions!
  11. £4500 seems amazingly cheap looking at the list of bits that went into mine... does that include throttle bodies, ECU, dry sump etc.?
  12. RaceCo modified my mounting bracket slightly - can take closer pics at some point if you like.
  13. Saw it installed in an SR8, and the video quickly transferred to a laptop, then combined with data logging and a circuit trace - very neat. Stack don't seem to respond to email inquiries - give them a call? I'm guessing it's pricey!
  14. Whoever does the mapping can either make it more crackly or less. I was previously a big fan of overrun explosions etc., but weigh this against having to repack the exhaust all the time to get through drive-by noise meters!
  15. My tuned 2.3 Duratec showed 250bhp/192lbft on Steve's new road, which was consistent with the engine dyno. That's the only road it's been run on though, but I was very impressed with it - the first road you don't have to worry about wheelspin due to the huge single roller.
  16. It depends on how many hours it takes. With mapping, you can take as long as you like getting the part throttle sorted - production car manufacturers take man years! But for just sorting full load and decent acceleration fuelling, assuming no faults, it shouldn't take that long.
  17. I can check my loom, but it's probably triggered of the same tacho signal the stack dash uses. Hopefully Mick Attree who actually built my car will post!
  18. My car, built from an R500 chassis came with the standard Caterham ACES, i.e. a fixed programming. No problem though - just detach the box, post back with 25 quid to a very helpful Julian and it comes back reprogrammed. Had mine set to 6750/7000/7250/7500/7750, but haven't used it anger yet. Snetterton on Friday! I would contact ACES direct to see how much for the Caterham branded version. Hang on a minute. Doesn't the CSR come with the ACES setup???
  19. His mobile is 07774 773824. Another big thumbs up!
  20. v7slr - "I'm totally happy with the results for now and am going to enjoy baiting the up and coming Duratecs" Pretty awesome for a 1900! Since you mention it, here is a plot from my "up and come" Duratec, built by Mick Attree - Dyno chart. 180lbft from 4500, and 150 over 3000. To make a fair comparison though, I've got no idea how much yours cost, and how long either will last.

    Vtec engines

Right, but the Vtec mechanism itself is just a pin - the relevant bit is the whole.

    Vtec engines

Where has it been "confirmed by Honda"? You're just perpetuating myth otherwise. 🙆🏻 As for torque - having previously owned a 500kg BEC for a couple of years, having torque again is great fun

    Vtec engines

That's a bit of an urban legend I think... anyway, the Duratec has something the poncy little VTEC's *don't* have... monster torque 😬
  24. Sitting on a rolling road doing various power runs, my standard Caterham triple-pass radiator had no problem. In my experience (which might be atypical!) this is the most stressful test of a cooling system - certainly more challenging than sitting in traffic at idle. No problems with water or oil temperate on road or track yet... thought it's been quite nippy danny
