  1. thanks Oily .. let's see which Caterham deliver!
  2. After 20,000 miles - much of it on the track - my head gasket appears to have decided to give up the ghost for the first time. I thought some one told me to be careful to make sure I got the correct replacement - implying there was more than 1 type available. Caterham tell me there is only 1 .... can anyone please confirm the situation? thanks Colin
  3. I am thinking about getting a data logger with GPS capability built in - for use in club racing. Plan is to link it up with a palm pilot as a relatively cheap display. Had some good feedback on the DL1. If anyone has experience - good and bad - of the DL1 or can offer a recommendation for some other product they have used which is comparable to the DL1 then I would appreciate hearing about it. cheers Colin
  4. tried it in my fireblade engined car whenit was running 120ish .... water plus WW was zero improvement over water/antifreeze mix .... so it did not live up to advert in this particular casr ... a bigger rad did the job though ... Now it sits on the shelf with about 40 other bottles of half consumed fluid!
  5. Dom I have GAZ on the live axle Fireblade engined Fury I race in 750 club RGB series. They have been on since the car was built (2002) and I have now done 3 seasons with them. Obviously I cannot compare them with an alternative on the same car so no idea what difference I would feel with something else on, but the good news is that when I did haver a problem with 1 of them after 4 years service I called the factory and a) they were helpful and asked me to send it to them b) they fixed the problem and returned the damper within a couple of days, and c) they waved any charge inc postage. So service wise I was impressed by the technical guy there. Not sure that helps you but at least some sort of reference! cheers Colin
  6. Dad's car not mine - see pistonheads or bookatrack for picture cheers Colin

  9. Any uptodate feedback on the relative merits of these rolling road operators please? Scark Race Engineering, Amesbury Janspeed Salisbury Spamspeed Thornbury Bristol In this case looking to put a big Jag on it rather than a Caterham! thanks Colin
  10. Thanks CageyH ... at least I am not alone!
  11. now seems worse ... tried it twice but immediatly drops to about 400 rpm after starting .. then pulls itself upto about 1000 but drops every so often and tries to cut out ... is there anything else I should be doing other than 1) turning ignition on (not starting) 2) fully depressing acceleratior 5 times 3) power off then 4) start normally?? have not touched the famous black knobs/buttons by the ecu?? any other suggestions / past threads?
  12. thanks .. rings a bell . .will go and try this now!

    tick over

my tickover keeps dropping to well below 1000 rpm (1400 Supersport K seires) and in the dim and distant past i think i remember being told I needed to do something clever with the 2 (?) black rubber covered buttons above the ecu???? It was something like holding down 1 or both (is it 2 sep buttons) for a few seconds twice - or something - that reset the ecu and sorted the tickover ....can anyone help turn this garbled recollection into a dummies guide that I can follow please? cheers Colin

    Rear Diff

Does anyone know the best source for 3.54 Escort Mark 2 diff internals please? I need std diff plus limited slip componants ... any guidance / sources appreciated cheers Colin
  15. correct - K&N filter - angled rubber neck and all ... looked like a paper element inside the external gauze so I assumed it was not washable ... will take your advice and clean it up thanks Colin
  16. mine is pretty old and not a "cleanable" foam job ... sounds as though no one else has had a problem with the neck .. though may chase the Ashley source thanks
  17. Has anyone tried ordering a new air filter from Caterham recently for a 1400K? I have the Supersport in a 92 DD. The filter they sent would not fit as if fouled underneath due to a neck that was too short ... my old filter has an extended neck on one side to help it clear. I was passing CC's showroom a few months ago and demonstrated the problem on one of their cars - so got a refund OK - but no apparent interest from parts in resolving the problem. Apparently no one else had reported a problem?. Any thoughts? Cheers Colin
  18. Anybody got a good trick for removing the inner (larger) bearing race from the front hub (assume it is Sierra) on a Fury? I thought the kitchen smelt gorgeous last night after cooking the hub for 30 mins at 230 C but not only did this not release the naughty little bugger (even when I tried to stick somerthing cold into the race while the surrounding hub was still *confused*hot) but the aroma was not exactly welcomed by the kitchen's no.1 driver. It is too big to tap out from the opposite side as the hub centre it a smaller diameter ... any clever tricks welcome ... or will my local ford dealer have a tool for doing the job?
  19. or of course I am remembering completely wrong and 10KG is baloney.....or after a wet drive
  20. mine answer this description and I think I weighed them a few years ago at close to 10Kg each !!!!!!
  21. Dave - hope you don't make a living from selling on black nose cones!! Did it ever get a set of wings or is this a different member of the species? Colin
  22. I need to relocate my coils - so need longer HT leads.....anyone know the correct spec and possible suppliers? The existing core looks as though the wire (copper?) is coated with tin or similar??? Does type of insulation matter? thanks Colin
  23. Raw are easy to find on google I think. My Dad has a styker with the 20 valve in ....it is a superb engine...compared to my 1400 K SS, this thing pulls like mad in a deceivingly flat sounding way....I rate it very highly...worth getting right. He has had it a year...done a few road miles but mainly track and racing and not had a single missed beat. The only problem with them is that they are eligible for relatively limited race series in the UK...e.g. 750 club kit car series only allows 16 valve...no idea why.
  24. Anyone have any recommendations for a good dealer in Gaz dampers - both for advice and sensible prices? Google did not help me much...any experience appreciated cheers Colin
  25. looking for used 14" slicks...seems to be a less popular size for picking up from race teams...but if anyone has some that are less than perfect for the pros but good enough for a few club races then pls shout thanks Colin
