  1. Andy Yes please - YHM. Chris Reckless with caution.
  2. Apologies up front for the hijack, but on a related subject, I've just done the longest round in my K series 1.8 Roadsport (Stoneleigh) and should check the oil. The car is new to me and I have no idea what oil has been used previously. Assuming I need to top up, what's my best all-purpose standby and does it matter? Or should I do a change and if so, with what? All advice gratefully appreciated. Chris Reckless with caution.

  4. Guys I purchased one of thesefrom Car Builder Solutions on April 22. Price: £7.05 with vat). I subsequently decided to fit a trio socket which I bastardised from a Draper jobby purchased from Aldi and lying unused in my tin top. Sooo, if anyone wants to give me a fiver for the redundant socket, give me a shout. Oh and I used this inline fuse holder into which I fitted a 7.5 amp fuse which was spare from my battery conditioner. Chris Reckless with caution.
  5. Steve It was no to mirrors, so settled for magnolia. But thanks for the offer. Reckless with caution.
  6. Phil Steve Newman is the man to thank for this, for it was he who suggested I email Parts, so *thumbup* Steve. I've had a great day: fitted a three-socket power supply thingy so I can run my satnav, phone charger etc; got my seized heater control working; fitted my trip meter reset cable; had a quick blat to make sure it all works (with toasty feet) AND painted bedroom ceiling so Mrs Gavel is happy too. None of this would have been possible without being able to check stuff out on these forums (with the exception of the ceiling, of course!). So thanks ... Chris Reckless with caution.
  7. Ordered cable Thursday and was told it was on back order and would take a week. It arrived today (Sat). Top marks Caterham Parts! Chris
  8. Super efficient Darren in the Parts dept emailed back. They have the part (71174) on back order - £7.80 plus vat - deliver - about a week. Just about to order. Reckless with caution.
  9. Sorry Steve, yes 1997.It was late when I posted yesterday! Thanks for the suggestion =- I'll e,ail Parts right now. Andy, if they can help, I'll let you know. Reckless with caution.
  10. Not had the 1987 K Series 1.8 Roadsport long and was wondering about two things: what the little bracket was just above my right knee and how do I reset my speedo trip meter. Diligent search of Techtalk answered both. All I need now is the reset cable. The part number, according to a post (in 2003!) is 71174 but sadly a search of Caterham's online store was not forthcoming. Anyone have any suggestions? Reckless with caution.
  11. Thanks very much for taking the time on this. I thought it was obvious too, but the threaded bolt I described is solid and the knob is simply screwed onto the end of it. I have no idea what happens to the cable once it enters the bulkhead. Your advice is sound, I'll disconnect and fiddle. I can only image the end of the cable is loose somewhere, but I have no idea how it attaches to the knob! Reckless with caution.
  12. Dear all I have related question from a newbie just staring off down the road of learning about Caterham mechanicals (so forgive the naivety). I have a heater; I have a heater cable. The cable appears to run into a threaded bolt which is secured by a large nut engine side of the bulkhead and a smaller nut on the cockpit side. Threaded onto the end of the threaded bolt which emerges by my right knee is a black plastic knob which is clearly intended to pull and push the heater open and closed. Problem is, the nuts either side of the bulkhead effectively lock the threaded bolt tight. It won't pull forward or push back. Any thoughts 🤔 Reckless with caution.
