  1. So i hand over my keys to a friend who has raced all sorts of different cars over the years, and wait for him to come back with a big smile on his face. No big smile and slight disappointment... His comments included questions of Bump Steer, twitchyness, and it not feeling setup right. I have never thought about setup ever since Caterham did some work for me back in 2005. 15" cr500s on a 2004 roadsport, wide track. I admit it is a bit twitchier than it used to be but i guess i just got used to it. Looking into geometry and setup there seems to be no standard, depending on the type of driving you do. As for bump steer and questions about steering rack being parallell to lower wish bones, ride heights and some even raising their steering racks I question whether this is necessery or if there is a standard setup guide for sevens and a few simple rules to follow. 15cm ride height rake back to front castor ? camber front ? camber back ? Toe ? Corner weighting % front to back I could just get someone in to take a look but really interested in learning about setup myself. I also still dont understand how things can go out of alignment over time. So to reliable BC to point me in the right direction.... Thanks David M
  2. I am looking to replace/refresh the material stuck onto a Caterham Tillett seat, i want it to look as close to the original as possible, does anyone have any sourcing suggestions? Thanks David M
  3. The wedge shaped one came from a143bhp VVC, so i think maybe i will wait for the replacement to come before trying it again... Thanks for the warning Grubbster...
  4. I have just used a wedge shaped one from a vvc engined 7 in my non VVC engine EU3 and it worked fine, not sure if the VVC engine is EU2 although i think it is .... Looks like my problems were a combined relay box / sticky starter motor
  5. I need a replacement engine control relay, does it matter which one. There is a rectangle one and a slighlty wedge shaped one, does anyone know if they are the same or i have to get a direct replacement...? Thanks David M
  6. I think i will work upwards in order of price, first stop Woodsilk yellow capped furniture polish...
  7. Is there some magic solution or method for cleaning / treating carbon stone guards to make them shine again. Sun, road salt, general abuse leaves that faded look. When you wet them you can bring some ofit back until it dries, which makes me think it should be possible with some sort of coating... Trying to avoid buying new ones for my project 7 David M
  8. Charlie, i am starting to think it may not be the immobiliser, and have started checking it through step by step with caterham.... it could just be a loose or damaged wire somewhere which will be apig to find..... the saga continues...
  9. Fred, The beeper is the annoying indicator one from the dash that sometimes sounds sometimes doesnt.... the fob has 17tn on the back... Checked battery and that is fine.... the fob seams to be connecting and working fine its just not allowing the starter motor to trigger... David M
  10. Hi John, just tried that, car does all the right flashing and clicking, but still no life.... I am wondering if its a fuel pump issue as i am not hearing a noise from the back.... or could be a fuel pump earth.... David M
  11. Hi, Does anyone know where I might get a replacement washer for the Tilton brake proportioning / bias unit. Its the main one at the bottom that is shredded... Thanks David M
  12. Charlie, Any idea what is involved in getting a new one paired with the ECU...?
  13. Cheers Oily... I will follow up on the Z and F tuning route Cap Sensible... Is this a K series? YES Do you have another fob have you tried this? YES Is there a red indicator light on the dash that flashes when the car is disabled, if so is this flashing? It does all sorts of different things, sometimes with a beep sometimes without generally flashes as it should but just doesn't fire the engine... If a K Series have you tried holding the fob next to the 5AS unit? (this is a black box normally under the dash on the drivers side) YES tried that it is picking up the signal but my guess is it is just not sending the right signals to the ECU. Fuel pump fuse is also fine....
  14. Ok, i cant use my seven at the moment as the immobiliser has got all confused. I cant reset it, or do anything to it it seems to let me start the engine.... I am not quite ready to strip out the ECU and replace with an Emerald i have, but anyone with any ideas would be gratefully received. Yes i have changed the fob battery Yes the battery is fully powered I have tried disconnecting everything and reconnecting, this did work once but a few trips later the only way i could get home was on the back of a flat bed... I tried the press it 5 times to reset but nothing happens anything else and i will give it a go..... Thanks
  15. RJ, there is no VIN plate, the car has had some replacement chasis parts and no VIN plate re attached. I am in the process of arranging with Caterham for a new VIN plate to be attached, as i have the chassis number stamped elswhere. The car will be presented to Caterham for authentication. The car is a cracker, it just needs a few hoops to be jumped through to get it on the road. The intention will then be to sell it on with the full history explained... It was bought as a mini project and has been much fun, even if GF04RCE has been parked out front for the summer whilst it takes up the garage workshop, but the profit will pay for the engine 40bhp+ head upgrades to my first child... oh that is if i can get the damn immobiliser to fully disengage and let the engine start.... yes i am a man with two sevens and i cant drive either of them at the moment....
  16. Jason good to hear it has been done..... Fingers crossed i may not need it.... I have been told that all Academy cars will have gone through SVA, VOSA are now tracking down the details based on the chassis number... DVLA have told me if i can get the SVA confirmation i will just need to fill in the v55/5 form.... Still waiting to speak with either James Plaza or Jon Proctor to fill in some of the gaps ....
  17. I am hoping to get a 2003 plate, as this is when the car was built, i really want to avoidthe Q plate if possible....
  18. I am trying to track down the Plaza Racing guys who put the engine in to find out a bit of history on it. I guess there is nothing wrong in making up a number that includes the chassis number as its unlikely to match an existing number. I am not trying to hide anything its should just be classed as a new build.... I'll get in touch with them to confirm though... thanks
  19. Hi, As i prep an ex 2003 academy seven for the IVA (never registered) which now has a VVC engine and no engine number as a result of the Starter mod.... Am i right in thinking I just stamp a new engine number on it incorporating the last digits of the chassis number...? seems both right and wrong at the same time..... If anyone else has experience of taking an older car through the IVA it would be great to hear about any lessons learnt..... Thanks
