  1. Proxy spot by a pal of mine on a motorcycling holiday.
  2. Put Academy wheels and tyres on the thing. You will spend all your time trying to keep it on the road so you won't have to worry about the speed.
  3. I refer the honourable gentleman to my previous answer. Although I have never had the pleasure of doing business with Dave Andrews (Oily on here). I am sufficiently aware of his knowledge of K series engines to accept that if he says that the foam is devils spawn then so it is.
  4. If Oily says take the foam out, then that was good enough for me.
  5. Quite a gaggle coming out of Ashurst this morning. Nice day for it chaps. I can only remember leader, Blue, aeroscreen. I was in Lexus going other way.
  6. In my experience Banner batteries don't take kindly to going flat. Provided they are kept fully charged then they last quite a long time, but let them go flat and even if you charge them up subsequently, then they seem to deteriorate pretty rapidly.
  7. Hmmm, methinks there speaks the voice of experience!!!!
  8. Just seen this before I went to bed and had to go into garage to have a look. Perfect, Wot he said above. Thanks hugely. Brian
  9. I pretty sure I ordered the correct ones for my SV plus the arms are ok so can't see the need to buy new ones. Might give Caterham a ring tomorrow.
  10. can anyone give me a heads up on replacing the wiper blades. At first glance it's not obvious how the wiper blades detach from the arms. Do they just pull off, or is there a nifty trick? Brian
  11. I'm sorry, but a toughened glass windscreen is not a good idea. Not only will it not last, the first chip is likely to break it, but when it does go, the screen will become opaque followed quickly by you being showered in tiny bits of glass. You will be lucky if you get away with only small cuts all over your face especially if you are travelling at speed. I am more surprised by the Glass Company supplying the glass for such a use.
  12. We have had two Mini Cooper S, the latest we bought new in 2007. Because I get the use of a firm's car every other week, the Mini does very little mileage, even now it has only done 54k miles. We had the 5 year TLC package, but because the service interval is calculated by the car we were in the position of only having one service over the five years. As result, after the warranty period expired, we have had it serviced annually by an independent with full oil/filter change and checks of brakes, etc. I personally don't think it's a good idea to have such long time intervals between services. Mine is a cooking version and it still goes like a rocket.
  13. As JK says, there are a huge variety of opinions on the essential tools to carry. Some are prepared to carry enough to do major engine surgery and others rely on AA/RAC. I carry spare throttle cable, spare exhaust bobbin and corresponding tools to fit (spanners, screwdrivers and pliers). That's about it. Oh, plus a variety of cable ties which are probably the most useful.

    Intercom System

I have a Starcom Digital system wired into the car. The cables (fused) go from battery to main unit in boot with cables from that to a remote control ( which duplicates controls) on tunnel top in front of gear lever. Another cable goes from main unit into cockpit for iPod. The sockets for headsets are in the rear bulkhead. I get no interference at all. If you go on Starcom website, they do car setups as well as M/cycle ones. I found it easier to phone them up, the bloke I spoke to was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful, although that was about four or five years ago. Brian

    Intercom System

Most people on here now have either Starcom or Autocom intercoms wired in with a variety of headsets from in ear buds to full over ear cups. The most expensive digital sets have noise cancelling, Bluetooth for phone, and music inputs. I have the Starcom ones which work perfectly for me. Should be quite a bit in the Archives about this. Brian
  16. Perhaps it's just me, but filling, what is laughingly described as a boot in our little cars, with everything but the kitchen sink is ridiculous. In addition to the obligatory items, bulbs and warning triangle, a small bag of tools, cable ties, throttle and clutch cables and exhaust bobbin is about the limit in my view. I usually have my car serviced and Mot a couple of months before we usually go abroad in August and in six years of touring in Europe including half way down in Italy have only had to replace the bobbin and that was back at the place we were staying, using the cable ties as a 'get you home' in the first instance. Anything major, RAC or equivalent. Ps. I will accept tyre gloop if you haven't got a spare. Brian
  17. Quite often when you turn off the key it goes into what may be the accessories position not 'off', but in any case I would advise taking back to Caterham, after all that's what the warranty is for. Brian
  18. Nobody has mentioned Avon CR500 and the new Avon ZZS which were developed for Caterhams. Brian
  19. If a post 1992 car is going to cause you a degree of aggravation with the U.S. Authorities, I will tactfully suggest that now may be the time to stop asking any more questions re the history of your car and just enjoy the thing. Brian
  20. If you have the original electric gauge and sender, they are notoriously unreliable.
  21. Hmm, don't Caterham fit the fuel tank?
  22. Ultimately it's a new build. Finish the car off and send it back to Caterham for them to sort out at the PBC.
  23. Interesting to see in the picture of the non CSR heater that the lower panel is the wrong way up. It should be as the CSR pic and have the two outer protrusions (for want of a better word) pointing downwards. This allows hot air into the foot wells. When I bought my new heater it came as per picture so that was the way I fitted it. It was sometime later after reading a thread on the old Blatchat that I had to dismantle and refit much to my annoyance.
  24. My charger trickle charged then automatically went onto a maintainance setting, anyhow I don't do it like that any more. Brian
