  1. I have Emailed Radtec and should have a response tomorrow. It would also, as a colonial, give me great pleasure to NOT pay another hated English tax, the one known as the VAT. After all, we yanks do have traditions to maintain.
  2. Getting a quality product engineered to fit a 7, at a reasonable cost by a competent individual, would be a dubious proposition at best, in my view. Definitely prefer a known and proven provider that knows 7s. Would sleep much better for what I suspect would be minimal additional cost. Also, the opportunity to stimulate youe economy pleases me.
  3. Would this be still open and available to furners with a zetec?
  4. A recent trip to the dyno exposed my occasional overheating problem. Required some clean up. A triple bypass radiator was recommended for my zetec. The USA dealer has an undecipherable website that seems to offer no parts. What alternatives might any of you suggest as proven soolutions? I would be happy to order one from the UK. Thank you for any/all suggestions.
  5. Thank you very much for the replies. I learned something and will pass along the info!
  6. Met a guy saturday with a CSR260. Beautiful car and he wanted to learn to drive it better. Had a gent with 30 years experience racing 7s ride with him and drive the car. When exiting corners the car had terminal understeer under hard, not even full, acceleration. I'm guessing that this is how the factory stets up the cars to hold down thw lawsuits What might a fella do if he wanted to make the car perform to its potential? Who might peddle such bits and pieces? Is this a common complaint with these top of the line cars? Sheesh! Seems like the factory could offer a better setup with adjustable shocks and collect even more cash from the buyer..... Thankfully, we have after market suppliers!
  7. Rob: Which pistons, rods and cams would you recommend and how much power could be gained? Or, is more $$$ outlay required to really get a noticeable increase? Thank you to each of you that responded. Most of us gearheads on this side are into V8s and modifying them for power. The knowledge base on 4 cylinder two litre motors is not nearly as broad as in the UK, in my unfortunate view.
  8. I have a Raceline equipped zetec with Jenvey 45 mm throttlebodies, shaved head, and various other stuff intended to get the motor above 200 HP. Kent Focus 12 cams sit on top and are adjustable. Can anyone direct me to a site where adjustment possibilities are suggested, and what the result of various changes might be? Still offering free beer to any responders willing to visit CA to collect.
  9. Gents: Thank you very much for your swift and useful answers. If you get to San Diego, CA I'm good for a beer and a blat!
  10. I have a Raceline zetec of about 210 HP with Jenvey twin TBs and 90mm trumpets. My questions are whether longer trumpets are available and whether there is any performance to be gained by using them. Also, what is the best air filter to use with longer trumpets; I'm currently using a large ITG box. Thanks to all who offer any thoughts or comments!
  11. Heard one of those automotive legend stories recently. Goes to the effect of Mazda(?) was unable to get one of their race cars quiet enough to gain admittance to an event a few years back. Out of desperation they alledgedly put some sort of volcanic rock into the exhaust. Did the trick and no further problems. Has anyone heard this tale and, of course, could it be true? What sort of rock might be involved? The glassy sharp stuff would seem heavy and of dubious value in suppressing noise. Tufa is light and gets me to wondering..... Noise IS an issue way over here in CA. TIA for any responses, including ridicule leveled @ the poster!
  12. Not certain which. The kit was made up @ Caterham in Sept 2000, if that helps...
  13. At present I have the SLR AP big brakes. Is there a part # for the performance friction and Pagid pads? Thanks for the replies!! Sounds like better pads are the right cost. I helped a UK gent resettle here in CA last week just cuz he owns a BEC Caterham. Nice fella, beautiful 7.
  14. Are carbon fiber brakes available for a 7? If so, who makes them and how much might they cost? Is there a significant unsprung weight savings? What sort of drawbacks might there be? TIA for any answers/thoughts on this.
  15. Which Kumho is this? I use the 710 and it is the best tire I have ever found that is still DOT compliant.
  16. I would also like to have a copy, if possible. The cost for the factory version is an excellent DIY motivation!! TIA!!!
  17. My zetec primaries are about 32". I think that they will be shortened to about 28", which will accomodate a longer set of "2" tubes. The gent doing this has a very high reputation in 4 cyl Ford racing circles.
  18. Thank you very much!! Is that an installed price? Again, TIA!!
  19. Could anyone tell me the cost of a drivers side floor lowering kit. Can't find the item on Caterham's website. Thank you very much. Ferrino will be moving to CA @ the summers end. Anyone else coming our way and looking for some 7 style fun?
  20. It might be an ECU issue. Mine occasionally goes funky and if I shut the car off and restart it that seems to recycle the ECU and it then works fine. Probably an sporadic short.
  21. There are two opposing camps on which way the cylinders should be paired, alternating or sequential. A guy here in CA claims his dyno work demonstrates that sequential is better and that at least one UK gent agrees. Me, I got no idea who is right and "why" on this one...
  22. AMMO: That sounds like it may be more than I will want to spend. My car is special, but... Nonetheless, I would like to know if it is not too much trouble for you. I believe that the ST170 is a variocam arrangement where setup where the cam "moves" at lower RPMs for starting and emissions purposes (MAY be wrong on that). The modified cams get locked in place so that the vario feature is not used. All of this requires the cam developed for the Cosworth head. Maybe it could work out price wise... I am still hoping to get a phone # for a discount seller of Ford parts. TIA!!
  23. No one makes "blank" cams for the ST170 zetec; all aftermarket cams offered are regrinds of existing cams. So, if Raceline is modifying the motors they are likely using the cams that come out of every one. That is why I am looking for a Ford parts seller in the UK. It should be cheaper for me to buy new cams, rather than send old cams over, and have them made up and shipped over here. Can anyone suggest a Ford parts seller with good prices (hopefully)? That will be the most reasonable way for me to get some decent performance cams. AMMO: If you have any thoughts OR product I would be very happy to do Biz with you again. Piper shows some specs for their two ST170 cams on their website.
  24. A Ford parts distributor/dealer that has discount pricing seems like the most reasonable bet.
