  1. Hi, Just looking to get some rear pads in as I believe the rear pads on the 620 wear pretty quickly and I've plenty of track days booked this year, Any pad recommendations ? Thanks
  2. Does anyone know the UK legalities of the QR systems for road use. I've been looking at the Rapfix QR offering and noticed Simon at Meteor has put Usage:For racing cars only in the description. I should probably give Simon a ring. I wonder if the GO Race is applicable for road use. Cheers
  3. Thanks All for the comments. Having driven the 420R this morning for a couple of hours I can confirm the grease is only a temp fix, while it addressed the play after initial application, it clearly spreads out over time and then offers no improvement. Totally agree with you there, mine is the same, I don't believe it's noticeable when driving, but still feel compelled to improve it. I guess my compulsion to make sure everything is spot on, plus the play on the 620R seems less, so I know it should be better. James your idea of PTFE seems interesting, if again a slightly longer temp fix. I take it there's no risk of broken down PTFE tape interfering with the lock mechanism making engagement difficult or even unsafe, eek. SM25T Thanks for the recommendation, will have a look.
  4. Quick update on the battery. It was left all week on the CTEK "conditioning". I've just tried to start the 420, and while it did start, you could tell it wasn't cracking over strongly. The new Banner has gone straight in, and wow the comparable difference, the 420 started like a light switch!. Conclusion, not recoverable!
  5. Morning All, Over the 5000 miles I've done in my 420R I've fitted 2 top steering columns and also quick release bosses, the reason, trying to dial out rotational play. Having driven the 420 last weekend, which was the first time for a while, I've been driving the 620, it reminded me of how distracting I find it. This morning I've once again checked all the clamps etc, and concluded the play is present in the splines on the boss and not the column clamp etc. To test this, I added a reasonable amount of high pressure grease to the female side of the steering boss. Sure enough it's removed the play, so in my head, that supports the conclusion that the play is in the column/boss interface. I fitted the wheel from the 620 which is better on play, and the same play was present, so I'm working on the issue being on the column side, Having replaced my kit original, and seemingly suffered the same issue with the replacement, I'm wondering if I'm chasing perfection? Would love to hear general opinions on this. Having grease on the end of the column isn't great for clothing, of course I can leave the steering wheel in situ, but it is handy to remove for security and ingress/egress. Is there a better product on the market which doesn't require welding? Do I even try a 3rd CC column? Cheers
  6. Back from a morning outing with the wife. Went to Castletown from Onchan for a coffee and shop, then back via a trading estate, ~30miles total. Also got fuel before hand. I think a total of 8 starts, including some additional test starts. It never hesitated. Plugged it back into the CTeK and i'ts gone to STEP 4 ABSORPTION: Charging with declining current to maximize up to 100% battery capacity, which pretty normal. So while I agree, better to be safe than sorry and replace, I don't think the battery is in bad condition.
  7. No I won't be using it. I've a new Banner sat on the worktop ready to go in. It's more for interest, so I might test it this weekend locally while having the booster in the boot. Long term the banner is destined to run a raspberry Pi nothing more.
  8. So the CTek seems totally happy with the battery now, it's made it into the green on the 7 or so lights on top of the charger. The battery voltage seems stable too for instance I left full beam on for 5 mins, it didn't cause a significant change in voltage. I've not had chance to get some distilled water due to work etc but will take a look at this weekend.
  9. the additional spacers, they felt lightly bonded too.
  10. When I built my 420 with Tillet seats I followed that same process as suggested by most here, ie the box section on the passenger side and the spacers on the drivers side etc. When I pulled the seats out of my factory built 620R I found the factory had fit some additional and different Tillet branded spacers between the floor and rail on the outer rail of the drivers side. I've checked the floor of my 620 and it seems flat and rails are same. My conclusion is such that there is a minor height difference in the rails which causes the seat to be at an angle, something the factory knows about. I've bought some of the same spacers for the 420 for retro fitting. I always found the 420 seat a pig to move and hope it will ease that.
  11. Why? The internals being rather unpleasant. In 26 years of driving, I've never opened a car battery, and might have replaced maybe 1 or 2 batteries in total.
  12. The CTeK has managed to achieve step 4, absorption. It's attained over 80% capacity.
  13. I haven't, given I'm working on the assumption that the failure is due to me leaving the ignition on the battery was fine prior. Unless draining it impacts the liquid level???. I'll be honest I'm not overly keen to open it up.
  14. Nw Jonathan. I've left the Banner on the CTek to see if it can at least recover the battery to a usable state for low current applications. I'm building a rear facing camera system of the trailer, so having a battery in the study is handy for dev.
  15. Thanks all. I gave it a poke this afternoon with a bench power supply set at 12v and 1A. That seems to have sparked it into life but its not well. The CTek is now happy to charge it too. I've managed to get the Banner to hold 12v but it certainly can't support any form of drain. In fact even its presence in the circuit seems to impact any secondary supply. I've added a booster pack, and also a trailer battery across the terminals the 420R still won't crank. I connected the trailer battery the 420R and all good, she started straight away. I've opted for a replacement Banner from Tayna as I likely damaged the battery, so can't really complain about them. Picking a different battery for me is limited by who will delivery to the Isle of Man, batteries are tricky things for shipping, many online retailers don't want to known. Tayna were super helpful. It would have been nice to have considered a lighter battery such as a LiPO but I've four CTek charges due to Amazon/Hermes inability to communicate. The chargers only support the classic lead acid, so i've stuck with the same setup. Thanks
  16. Hey All, I stupidly left the ignition on in my 420 and have seemingly done damage to the Banner battery, even though a CTek was connected. There's literally no voltage, it appears open circuit and the charger refuses to see it. I removed it to test etc. I've ordered a replacement as I appreciate what's happened has probably done permanent damage. Rather than send it to the tip, I'm wondering if there's any possibility of getting some life back into it. I've a number of trailer related projects on the boil and a test car battery would be handy. Any workable tips to recover ? thanks for the advice.....
  17. Equally Simon, thanks for an amazing event, both Oulton and Croft. The atmosphere was fantastic at both days, I'm looking forward to booking more dates!
  18. Hi, I'd like to auction off my used Caterham S3 GRP Aeroscreen. The screen has been drilled for the SPA wing and rear view mirror. Popper stud are also fitted. The screen is in good condition. Auction has reserve!!! All proceeds to got to PCR either via the club or indirectly. I will be in the UK until the Oulton track day, it would be ideal to hand it over at Oulton circuit. Due to the shape shipping from the Isle of Man where I live gets costly. I'll post images of the screen on my instagram. https://www.instagram.com/caterham7diaries/
  19. Hi, The track day roll bar from my 620R is being replaced with a cage, as a result the bar originally fitted is available. The 620R is Nov'19 however has only done ~1100miles always dry, and the car has spent 99.99% of life sat in my garage as it's been affected by the 620 temperature and fueling issues. The bar should be in perfect condition. There are no external imperfections. The bar was removed and painted by Oakmere as it was originally supplied black. The bar is the trackday spec, for an S3. It is expected to be available for collection only from PGM from around the 17th July onwards. £100 ono. Thanks for reading. Have a great day!
  20. Hey All , I'm currently installing replacing suspension onto the 620R. I've got some pics showing where/how to mount the canisters under the arch, however I'm looking at installing in the boot. I have a general idea of what I need to do, but some pics of other peoples install would be super helpful. I'm not sure exactly where to cut the boot floor. Obviously it's a bit of a one shot deal. If anyone has some pics from their install it would be amazing. Thanks
  21. Thanks, that's awesome, and will work a treat. We're not coming on the Taffia this year, sadly. A couple of factors have conspired to make the timing not great. I am disappointed, may be next year. However, I will be attending club track days a Croft and Oulton later in the year. Fingers cross with a fully sorted 620. That's getting a new map, suspension and cage.
