  1. As Nigel says they are Caerbont gauges, I attempted to take one apart tonight but they seem glued together so even having a look inside them is not possible.
  2. My car is new and has the current R series clocks..............the illumination of these is way too bright and that combined with the, not great headlights (even though they have Phillips Xtreme Vison bulbs) and the awkward position of the dip switch make driving the car at night difficult or at least more difficult than it should be as otherwise its an amazing experience in a 7 on a still mild night with no roof. Is there an easy solution to the crazily glaring dash at night or does it mean taking all the clocks out and changing each bulb if at all possible?
  3. I had seen that video, there are some that are fine and some that won't run until warm so Williams telling me its normal is incorrect.
  4. That's a good idea but if I don't touch the throttle it won't fire up. I am hoping Caterham come up with a few suggestions or parts, there are a few other 420 owners are experiencing the same thing and I believe they live a lot closer to a dealer or Caterham themselves than me so if a solution can be found for them the same solution might solve mine not idling.
  5. There is no dealer agent in Ireland never mind N.Ireland. I'll try the reset as I do press the accelerator to start the car as I have to otherwise is fires and stalls within a second. Thanks, Mike
  6. I live in N.Ireland so I can never see Caterham or Williams agreeing to collect the car! Williams tell me Caterham are telling them its normal on a 420, sounds a lot like BS to me. I have read there are a few others with a 420 having the same issue.................
  7. Problem........................... My 400 mile 420R won't idle until it has at least 45 deg on the gauge and I live no where near a Caterham dealer. I have turned up the idle a little to sit a 1200rpm when hot but the car needs a constant light throttle until it gets up to 45deg and it's a pain. I have tried to get talking to someone in Caterham about it several times but either I can't get them or the relevant person is to get back to me and they never do. Williams automobiles that I bought it from is telling me all the 420's do this and it's normal. I don't think it can be normal, I've never seen any modern 4 stroke engine that won't idle cold least of all a near 40grand Caterham. Can anyone off advice in the way of what to try or who to speak to in Caterham? Thanks.
  8. Thanks Jonathan, I noted a member who said the Mothercare Dimension fitted but I see it has been discontinued possibly due to safety critisisims. Buy the way I has leather seats so theres a bit more room than with Tillets. I have a narrow Graco high back seat the same as this but its base is 41cms and might fit but it would damage the car and maybe itself! For SV owners it will fit.......................... http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41Fv7DgA-QL._SY300_.jpg Might take a trip to Halfords with a tape rule or the car!
  9. Hi guys, I am a bit premature but I would like to get a narrow high back car seat for my 3 year old girl, she is a little too small at the moment but it would be good to have something for when she is big enough or if I HAVE to put her in the car sometime! I have looked at the likes of the BubbleBum booster seat and while it would be very good for me it might not be good for her from a safety point of view. The American Volvo high back child seat seems ideal but there is only one I can find on Ebay and he won't post it, I am in N.I.. It seems to get the best response from Caterham S3 owners saying it looks like it was made for a 7. The seat needs to be narrower than 39cms and they all appear to be 41cms +. Will the Halfords essentials one fit? It states 44cms but that appears to be the shoulders.............. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Halfords-Essentials-High-Back-Booster-Seat-Group-2-3-15-36kg-4-12-Years-/321624328274?hash=item4ae24dc852:g:Q4IAAOSwu1VW3TOV Can anyone offer me any advice or even anyone here have an old Volvo booster seat? Thanks
  10. Just fitted the standard Spa mirrors, should be fine with no center mirror but time will tell..................... http://i323.photobucket.com/albums/nn455/alex07715/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_0070_zpsiee2parn.jpg http://i323.photobucket.com/albums/nn455/alex07715/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_0071_zpsvbjmhttx.jpg
  11. I fitted it today with the poppers fitted to the original scuttle poppers held on with M5 dome head stainless screws, seems a success but the fitting was very time consuming figuring out where to drill the holes on the screen and center support. Next problem is the mirrors, I did think the Racetech mirror set would do but the bottom line is I don't like the center mirror, it seems to obstruct the view of the left front no matter what way you fit it. I am currently looking for convex side mirrors that have a long enough stem to see what is behind you thereby not needing a center mirror. I have the Spa F1 mirrors that came with the Caterham aeroscreen kit but the stem is not long enough to see behind you so I would still need a center mirror. The Racetec GP2 mirrors with a long stem might be the best but they aren't half expensive, theres the classic mirrors and then theres Motamec F1 mirrors. Hmmmm................................... Suggestions welcome
  12. Ok, so I bought a Meteor clear screen, question is what's the best way to hold it down in the centre? Fit the metal poppers to the bracket, use Velcro or remove the male poppers from the screen and screw the bracket to the scuttle using the holes?
  13. It's a paper element in the 360 and 420 airbox
  14. I have an idea of taking the airbox off and fitting a K&N cone filter the next size up from a standard R400/R500 one. It an E-1988 and they are £58. There are plenty of cone filters that fit for about 30quid.
  15. Lol I priced replacement white front wing indicators, they're Led, I'll be sticking with orange. Bloody Led!
  16. Can I ask................................why bother? Better headlights like more power or LED I understand but the rest?
  17. Any one have any experience of the ones I've listed or others?
  18. The handbook says 6000miles but my dealer wants it done at between 500-1000miles. I'm happy with that.
  19. I just bought the Sealy 650 following Mucus72's link above but its £50 from Amazon now......... http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000RA16CO/ref=pe_385721_146881391_TE_item I have used a cheap 12V electric pump for a few years now but its slow, messy and it leaks right at the pump housing, also the power switch died and I had to by pass the switch. Chinese rubbish........this is it............. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Motorbike-Portable-Diesel-Oil-Transfer-Pump-12V-60W-Extractor-Fluid-Change-/371704216061?hash=item568b4c39fd:g:-WgAAOSw0UdXpypJ
  20. Thanks Smithy77 I am 5'9" with lowered floors so I can see ok with the aero but I do like to see the front wheels, on that the big standard centre mirror is terrible, I had one on a previous car that didn't have lowered floors and it really blocked the view of the left front. I'll either do without it or get a smaller Racetec one. The clear aero might look well if it was tinted slightly with a spray or film tint.........................
  21. I want an interchangeable aeroscreen for my 420R S3, I have the genuine Caterham composite aero kit which has never been used so I have the mirrors but I have decided I want a carbon one. I am thinking maybe the Meteor Motorsport perspex one is the best for use though the carbon has the best asthetics. The Caterham carbon aero kit is too expensive IMO! After a bit of advice or experience of the following - Is this any good or is it poor quality from kit car direct at £150? - http://www.kitcardirect.co.uk/caterham-style-series-3-s3-aero-screen-carbon.html I like the visibility but prefer the look of the carbon ones, pros and cons, £200- http://www.meteormotorsport.com/shop/caterham/clear-aeroscreen/ This looks good but again is it, £235 or £300 with the carbon mount? - http://westermann-motorsport.com/index.php?page=product&info=419 Thanks for any feedback*thumb_up*
  22. I have been using a Ctek mxs 5.0 trickle charger for years for both cars and motorbikes after a few dead motorbike batteries! Previously the bike had sat through the winter and every 2 weeks I would start and run the bike but the winter laziness set in and the 2 weeks got longer and longer, then, dead battery. I eventually stopped kidding myself and bought the Ctek years ago, I leave it on all the time if the car or bike is not being used for a week or two, never a problem. The problem comes if you either don't have one or don't use it enough! I connect it to the Caterham through the 12v socket and Ctek adaptor so I don't have to take off the bonnet and risk paint scratches or have a fly wire hanging out the bottom of the car somewhere.
  23. First ever trackday in a 620 my advice is, let the tyres and fluids warm for at least a lap before pushing on and at the end of the session do the slowing lap very slowly to allow everything to cool before you stop in the garage at all the latent heat is not good for anything.
  24. Can I ask why you are selling it? I thought you loved it!
