I changed the same hose on my 1999K a couple of weeks ago. As mentioned above I removed the thermostat housing and fitted the hose off the car. At the came time I took the opportunity to drill a small hole in the metal thermostat body. A well know anti air lock mod if you search the forum. The thermostat housing is sealed into the water pump body with an o ring and bolt which also holds the dip stick housing. I found it easy to remove with a bit of wiggling but make sure you don’t damage the o ring when reinstalling as it will leak if damaged. I think the o ring is a specific Rover item. I refilled the system slowly via the expansion tank and top heater hose and had no air locks.
I had a look on Pistonheads. It’s a single door for sale. I think it would fit my 1999 car ok but I would like a pair if possible. Thanks for looking. Chris
I am planning to replace my 14in R888’s in the near future for a set of R888R. Like you my old tyres are getting hard and long in the tooth but have been great. I am happy with my 14 inch Minator wheels as I only use the car on the road.
Even the standard yellow 16 valve badge is difficult to find. Mine is starting to show its age and I would like to replace it with a new one. I wonder if the club could have a limited run made somehow, obviously with Caterham Cars blessing.
Hi Gents Thanks for all you help, Yes Mr Stupid missed a couple of the less obvious bolts. As you suggest Blue C7 16 bolts in total, once all the bolts were out it popped off easily. Planning to do the foam tomorrow. Chris
Hi revilla I have got a couple of bolts in to catch it if it frees up. I think you are correct that the sump has bonded to the gasket. I only got the car in October (2000 K) the service record states the foam was changed five years ago. Chris
Any good tips for splitting the sump from the block? All the bolts are out but it won't budge I am worried about breaking something if I get over zealous. The plan was for a simple foam check/removal but it is turning into a bit of a saga. Chris
The foam issue seems to be full of varying advice, don't we still have contacts with the original Caterham Cars/Rover team who formulated the idea for the sump foam in the first place?
Does the latest copy of the owners manual have service data for older cars 1999 etc. I have looked through our online guides but can find no info on the types of oils or coolants required. The get to know you seven guides are a great resource but I can't find detailed info on sump foam or coolant replacement for example. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place.
