  1. pair of good condition rear shocks/springs. Bilstein. As fitted to late live axle cars. £125
  2. I have just dropped my 1.6vx sump tonight as i dont think it has been off before (18yrs) baffle still in great condition & flexable. I have ordered a new one though which will fit along with new gaskets.
  3. Thanks Johnh.. my car is a 99 1.6vx & guess engine is actually older. I think I will need to take a look now.. will call Redline for foam, do you know if they sell the proper sump gasket ? Regarding oil, would 15w40 semi to the right grade ?
  4. thanks for info, i have no idea if the foam in my sump has been removed. i assume its to stop oil slushing to stop it from not being at oil pick up ?
  5. My 99reg has a cable driven speedo which the needle flickers nearly 10mph, any ideas if its a common prob with speedo or cable/gearbox drive ?
  6. Interesting advice, I have a 1.6vx 8v. Do these engines have the foam baffle ?
  7. Fitted the carbs I just purchased/serviced with the 32mm chokes to car, Fired up first go & happy with the way car drives. Now to give carbs I took off a little clean up... oh the joys of tinkering..
  8. Thanks Richard, had a 1700 tuned xflow Caterham which had 32mm chokes & it drive good. Better than it did with the bored out chokes car came with. I have machined out the spare 30mm chokes to 31.85mm, in process of putting carbs i just serviced back on car, so will try them out, if no better or hopefully no worse i can just fit the other 30mm set.
  9. 185-60-14 Dunlop Sport BluResponse... check them out...
  10. Cheers, read/seen these figures on www. I think engine compression can play a part too plus also read this which got me thinking ie Caterhams being very light. "Weight of the vehicles, the lighter the vehicle for a set eng capacity, increase the choke size" Was hoping an owner of same car might have 32mm chokes in their carbs & could offer thoughts
  11. Will stick with google from now on & the other tech page.
  12. my 1.6 vx 8v 40 DCOE`s have 30mm chokes, I have another set of 30mm chokes & I am wondering if it would be worth boring these out to 32mm & fitting them to carbs. I know mains jets will need increasing. ?
  13. the original Michelin MXT`s that are fitted are T rated & I think the Avons are T rated also.
  14. would like to keep profile same as live axle..
  15. dont think they are available any more, had these on my first 7. not sure if any of run of mill type are suitable.? ie uniroyal rain expert etc
  16. What is a good road tyre for above size ?
  17. I have the arm rests which have the spike already fitted. But there was a note saying the above was required to fit car..
  18. Arm rests have arrived but dont come with stainless fixings... WHY...NOT.. any way will need to order some, instructions aren`t great, assuming looking at them 3 rivets might need to be drilled out & then drill clips & rivet them in place ??
  19. Thanks Rodger appreciate your advice... I have ordered some 35 pumps. Do you mean 30mm Chokes ??? (40mm) I got 50F8 idles in (had 50F6 in). 115 mains, F9 ET 160 air. in at moment. have got F7 ET in a bag..

  21. Thanks Roger, it I am right you are an engine guy... sure have read your name regards xflows.. i have a little vid but not sure how to post it on here
  22. The metering hole in the accelerator pump jet has to be large enough to remove any hesitation or stumble caused by the lean condition created by suddenly opening the throttle plates (butterfly valves) at low RPM. Too large a jet will cause a "bogging down" of the engine from too much raw fuel. The jets are numbered for their hole size in hundredths of a millimetre and are in five hundredths of a millimetre steps (i.e. 35, 40, 45, 50). Think I will try 35 pump jets current ones are 45 & have read in here a few saying they were told to use 35`s....
  23. 1.6 vx 8v.. Ignition timing now thats another ? as I dont know how timing is ajusted on this as dizzy is fixed ???
