  1. I thought that I'd give an update of my CSR gear-lever saga. I had a new quickshift on order when I posted so this focused my attention on removing the CSR's extension to screw on to the new lever. A pair of molegrips with the lever in the vice is all it took, to my relief. Pleased to report that the new lever has resolved the sloppy lateral play. The only change I had to make was altering the bearing to the upper position in the housing as this seems to be the norm in the CSR (mine at least). As it seemed that it was the original lever's bearing that was at fault, I thought I'd replace that with one listed on 7 wonder's of the world's list. The Rose bearing listed fits a treat. I also investigated getting a 2nd extension made (to complete a spare lever), but this was uneconomic. My extension was replaced using bearing retainer (Wurth) which, I'm assured, will release its 'vice-like' grip at 150C if removal is required. Thanks again.
  2. I'm starting to be reduced to hysterical laughter! I really hope that James's tale frightens the little blighter into early submission. I've a large stillsons ready, think I shall rest it next to the gear lever to intimidate it. Shan't sort lever and/or bearing until next week. Will report back. Thanks again, Roger
  3. Thanks again for all your information. From my brief investigation of the shift I believe I'm correct in saying that the bearing cannot be removed with the CSR shift extension still attached. So new bearing or new shift, unless I can get the extension off I'm paddle less!! Think I'll investigate getting an extension made, I wonder if Quaife made those?
  4. Have been running with the sintered brass saddle for some years. Had a look for just the bearing ( Caterham and Redline) but couldn't find it. Any help with locating one would be gratefully received. What was your rescue strategy for the knackered lever James?
  5. I don't stop for any old waif & stray that I find on Cumbrian passes. Especially if they're wearing Jimmy Choo eco sandals. I slowed up a bit though. I'm sure that I heard him muttering about "being on his patch" as I drove past.
  6. Hanns Per I have a CSR200, I assume this would fill your needs? I have no plans at the moment to be in Daventry, but would be happy to transport my car to BTB if needs send me in that direction in the next 2 months.
  7. Email sent Richard with area group info. Manstein has given you the CTS web address, I've added a bit of detail. Surely Oakmere need to sort this for you? Get in touch if you need help getting it over to them.

    Thank You

Thanks from a newby to all that bid "welcome" and gave me instruction, encouragement and the benefit of their experience. Chris, I applaud you for your boundless work, support and enthusiasm.
  9. I've had nearly 10 years of running with the standard 24/23 set up on CR500s, mostly touring 2 up with reasonable luggage, so not lightweight. Those pressures set cold. Dropped down to 18 all round for trackdays and occasional solo lightweight runs. Tyres have always worn quite evenly in my case. Need to switch to the ZZS set up during the winter, interested to see how they feel.
  10. Made something like it a while back, but edged it with 2cm wide hemtape (out of Christine's sewing box). Similar use of lower poppers and Velcro loops. Left in place these days as CSR used for touring only. Certainly calms things down in the cabin and cuts out rear spray with the halfhood in place.
  11. I don't know which particular gods to thank, but a combination of obscure, single track, potholed roads on a local blat with the ancient cobbled roads of Laon or just the on/off filthy weather conspired to kick-start my speedo to full working health. I could dig deep and investigate, but with Portmeirion coming up, I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. Incidentally, I did have a brake light failure in France which was down to a blown fuse. No obvious cause. 7 ownership eh?
  12. Thanks John. Will make a more "considered" assessment when I return from Laon. Certainly will try the direct 12v feed to the sensor. My cobbled up pieces of wire into the econoseal may go some way to explain the 9v result.
  13. Finally got the time to wrestle under the CSR just before departing for Laon. A very quick look showed no LED light showing at the wheel sensor which looked intact and correctly positioned (it hadn't moved). Split the econoseal connector and managed, with various bits of wire, to show 9v at the loom end +supply. Was surprised to see 9v, but at least the loom feed appears intact. Sensor to order on my return. Any thoughts, especially on 9v, very welcome. Thanks. Rogercsr7 (Yorkshire NE AR)
  14. Chris Wheeler upside down with legs flailing in the air is etched into my memory.
  15. Bought a pair of Classic Car LEDs H4 bulbs for the CSR last year and eventually fitted them during the winter. I finally got the opportunity for a night test drive at a recent club night ( and were impressed with the results) before leaving for the Club's Portugal trip.During our group drive south to Portugal through wet weather one of the dipped beams failed. I contacted Classic Car LEDs by email and they very speedily despatched a replacement bulb to our next destination in Portugal. I'm now legal, at the very least, for my night drive back north from Portsmouth. I thought it worth reporting this excellent support from Duncan and his CC LEDs colleagues. Usual disclaimers.
  16. Coventry East Premier Inn on the Friday night, then testing out the sleeping arrangements in my Volvo under a Coventry bridge on the Saturday.
  17. Thanks for the Travelodge info Richard, now booked. Despite my "name" Tony, I'm using an ex-Academy 270R. My CSR will be on touring duties from now on. Had to make a decision whether to de-tune the sigma to access class1, or keep a healthy 138+ bhp and drop into class 2. Class 2 it is, my chances of being competitive are remote so maximum fun is the order of the day. Look forward to meeting you and joining the fun.
  18. Newby here, likely to use Goodwood to break his speed virginity. It's a long way from Yorkshire, any suggestions of where to head to for the Friday night, trailer in tow? Days of having the campervan are past so b&b/hotel required. Looking forward to joining the fun.
  19. Thanks for all the comments on the thread chaps. All sorted my end after braving this morning under the carport. On my 270R it is definitely the white wire with the black flash (not the black with a white flash). Tapped into that having teased it out from the loom behind the tacho. My ex-Academy car seems to have all sorts of spare , unconnected wires behind the dash, with a very convenient spare ignition feed green and a black earth going spare. I had the correct connections from the start, but mistakenly thought that the revs were showing on the DRE all the time.
  20. Just in the process of transferring my DRE shift lights across from my CSR onto my sigma 270R. I've found an easy access earth and ign power feed (there's a few spare terminals about as it's an ex-academy car), now searching for the signal wire. I've spliced into the white/black wire at the back of the tacho, as in the CSR. The DRE is live and scrolls through settings, but no rev read-out when fired up, just a brief 5 (I think). I've tried the 1 cylinder setting (as on the CSR) and the 4 cylinder setting. Can anyone confirm that I'm on the right wire for the signal, or am I missing something else. Thanks a lot, Roger
  21. I'm sure that Mrs Abbott will be only too pleased to enjoy the company of Mrs Long as will I. Fond memories though of decent, intelligent conversation with Andrew at Laon. Don't suppose he could bring Mrs Long.
  22. I'm using a Yuasa 12v 30ah garden machinery battery with my Warrior winch. Think there's a variety of garden/golf buggy style batteries you could use.
