  1. I thought that I'd give an update of my CSR gear-lever saga. I had a new quickshift on order when I posted so this focused my attention on removing the CSR's extension to screw on to the new lever. A pair of molegrips with the lever in the vice is all it took, to my relief. Pleased to report that the new lever has resolved the sloppy lateral play. The only change I had to make was altering the bearing to the upper position in the housing as this seems to be the norm in the CSR (mine at least). As it seemed that it was the original lever's bearing that was at fault, I thought I'd replace that with one listed on 7 wonder's of the world's list. The Rose bearing listed fits a treat. I also investigated getting a 2nd extension made (to complete a spare lever), but this was uneconomic. My extension was replaced using bearing retainer (Wurth) which, I'm assured, will release its 'vice-like' grip at 150C if removal is required. Thanks again.
  2. I'm starting to be reduced to hysterical laughter! I really hope that James's tale frightens the little blighter into early submission. I've a large stillsons ready, think I shall rest it next to the gear lever to intimidate it. Shan't sort lever and/or bearing until next week. Will report back. Thanks again, Roger
  3. Thanks again for all your information. From my brief investigation of the shift I believe I'm correct in saying that the bearing cannot be removed with the CSR shift extension still attached. So new bearing or new shift, unless I can get the extension off I'm paddle less!! Think I'll investigate getting an extension made, I wonder if Quaife made those?
  4. Have been running with the sintered brass saddle for some years. Had a look for just the bearing ( Caterham and Redline) but couldn't find it. Any help with locating one would be gratefully received. What was your rescue strategy for the knackered lever James?
  5. I don't stop for any old waif & stray that I find on Cumbrian passes. Especially if they're wearing Jimmy Choo eco sandals. I slowed up a bit though. I'm sure that I heard him muttering about "being on his patch" as I drove past.
  6. Hanns Per I have a CSR200, I assume this would fill your needs? I have no plans at the moment to be in Daventry, but would be happy to transport my car to BTB if needs send me in that direction in the next 2 months.
  7. Email sent Richard with area group info. Manstein has given you the CTS web address, I've added a bit of detail. Surely Oakmere need to sort this for you? Get in touch if you need help getting it over to them.

    Thank You

Thanks from a newby to all that bid "welcome" and gave me instruction, encouragement and the benefit of their experience. Chris, I applaud you for your boundless work, support and enthusiasm.
  9. I've had nearly 10 years of running with the standard 24/23 set up on CR500s, mostly touring 2 up with reasonable luggage, so not lightweight. Those pressures set cold. Dropped down to 18 all round for trackdays and occasional solo lightweight runs. Tyres have always worn quite evenly in my case. Need to switch to the ZZS set up during the winter, interested to see how they feel.
  10. Made something like it a while back, but edged it with 2cm wide hemtape (out of Christine's sewing box). Similar use of lower poppers and Velcro loops. Left in place these days as CSR used for touring only. Certainly calms things down in the cabin and cuts out rear spray with the halfhood in place.
  11. I don't know which particular gods to thank, but a combination of obscure, single track, potholed roads on a local blat with the ancient cobbled roads of Laon or just the on/off filthy weather conspired to kick-start my speedo to full working health. I could dig deep and investigate, but with Portmeirion coming up, I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. Incidentally, I did have a brake light failure in France which was down to a blown fuse. No obvious cause. 7 ownership eh?
  12. Thanks John. Will make a more "considered" assessment when I return from Laon. Certainly will try the direct 12v feed to the sensor. My cobbled up pieces of wire into the econoseal may go some way to explain the 9v result.
