goffers
According to the "Caterham Seven Service Schedule" in the 7FAQ section it is recommended that the sump foam baffle is replaced at 12,000 mile intervals. My Seven has only done half this mileage and it's just over five years since its build - are there any views as to whether it should be replaced at 12,000 miles OR (say) 5 years (i.e. mileage AND calender limits?) goffers

old captain slow
I change the foam every year. Not worth the risk of it breaking up. C7 CDW
Myles
Holy sh!t Change it. I hold one of the records - less than 400 miles (about 70 actually, but we pulled the engine apart at 400) for it to completely dissolve and screw the (brand new) bearings). If you *do* want to keep it in there, I have a brand-new (in bag) foam that you can have for a fiver + shipping. It ain't going near *my* engine. Project Scope-Creep is live... goffers
Guy, I don't believe Myles has a VX 1600 8V baffle (which is what I need), so you guys go ahead. goffers
Strangely
JP, I've done 23k miles on my "new" 1.8 K engine since it was built, without a sump foam on the advice of Oily. No problems (that I know of 😳). Purely road use (until I get my dry sump fitted).
Myles
Guy, if you still want it, drop me an email with your address, and I'll try and get it in the post on Saturday (engine removal permitting... ) Project Scope-Creep is live... Myles
Guy, I replied to you mail, but it bounced (no user of that name). In short, I'll get it in the post at the first opportunity - Saturday, with luck. Postage should be cheap (only a bag of gas would weigh less...). Txfer to my bank a/c is best for me.
