james1
Just cacked my sump on my r500 is it alloy or mag? Do dartford offer a collection service as its sitting over in Guilford. Any one know if Caterham will weld it or is it new one and how much do they cost?
V7 SLR
It's magnesium, therefore expensive and probably difficult to weld. Caterham won't repair it but you might get someone who is able to however cast ali is hard to weld. Mag ali is harder. It's a fairly easy thing to swap for a new one. You'll need a set of allen keys (about 3 sizes), an adjustable wrench and some instant gasket goop (red stuff). Oh, and a jack. I know someone selling one or two (or 300)... Jason Plato
Ali can be repaired quite easily by an experienced welder . Mag can also be welded provided you have the right kit . provided the damaged is too serious then a welded repair will be just fine . I would simply take a look in your yellow pages for fabrication / welding companies locally and ask them . A new ally sump pan ios about £220 , a mag one I imagine is a lot more . I would see about getting it fixed . If you do throw it away ....... please let me know , I will have it off you C7 TOP Powered by Hellier Performance 😬 South Wales AO
Mike Bees
"Just cacked my sump" *eek* I imagine I'd do the same if I saw the price of a magnesium sump... Mike
