Rick W
Grrrr! Just managed to clip a kerb with a newish P6000 in a V70. Taken a small, triangular lump out of the sidewall about 2cm long, 1cm at widest point, 3mm deep. I really don't want to scrap a new tyre - is there a rule of thumb method of working out what is/isn't safe? Or are sidewalls repairable?
mav
You've just scrapped a new tyre. You can not repair it Get it changed before driving very far or at any speed.
Mr Locust
Many tyre bays won't even repair straightforward punctures in the sidewall. Sounds like its a scrapper ☹️ Ian Green and Silver Roadsport 😬
Mr Locust
Blimey - How did the big fella sneak in there Ian Green and Silver Roadsport 😬
Frying Pan
Not worth the risk of leaving it - get it changed... Guy See some pictures of the build here. 4000 miles completed!
Graham Perry
It sounds like it is technically just legal, but on a seven I would replace it. Any cut that is longer than 25mm or deep enough that it reaches the cords of the tyre is illegal.
shn7
Graham, being that the damage is to the sidewall I'd be surprised if anyone would dare repair it. Rick - bin it. Just think of the potential consequences if it let go at speed. Then avoid the kerbs in the future Steve.
Graham Perry
Agreed, The only tyres that tend to get side walls repaired these days are the heavier stuff such as tractor and truck tyres.
Rick W
OK, thanks chaps - there's no cord showing but given the strength of views I think I'll be off for a new tyre this w/e. Darn it.
Martin H
Phew - from the thread title, I thought you'd thown the car into a tyre wall. A new tyre will be far cheaper!
Rick W
😬 😬 Still £120 though. Think of all the more interesting things you could get for that... Curry and beer every night for a week for starters.

KDEANO
I did the same on my old Clio Cup. Brand new tyre with the exactly the same sort of damage The boys at Kwick Fit told me it shouldn't be a problem but I just didn't feel comfortable leaving it - especially as I regularly went on the track Suck up the cost - and sleep easy I reckon
Graham Sewell
If you paid by credit card and have purchase insurance on it - you could try claiming on the all-risks bit. Usually valid for 90 days. Low tech luddite - xflow and proud!
markc
put the spare on and stick that one in the boot - just remember that if you get a puncture dont drive fast on the spare. MarkC
phelpsa
Tyres for the 17" wheels on the V70 cost a bomb. We have one, so I can sympathise with you
