Tiny Tim
I know that the fuel consumption on a 2.0VX with twin Weber 45s is not going to be brilliant, but as a matter of interest and to give me some idea of how well the carbs are set up what sort of fuel consumption should I expect for normal road use. StewartG
About 120 miles from a tankfull 150 max.
Mr Locust
Generally about twice as many stops as a K series car on most blats. (Eh Nick ) Would guess 110-120 miles/tank. Ian Green and Silver Roadsport 😬
acw
I have the 218bhp Vx Swindon on 45's, with gentle use I get 25mpg, day to day about 20, and about 10 on a track day. Andrew
Area Representative Nick Chan Posted December 2, 2004 Area Representative Share Posted December 2, 2004 Generally about twice as many stops as a K series car on most blats. (Eh Nick) Sounds about right! ☹️ I have got a standard 175 bhp VX on 45's and I reckon on around 23-24 mpg overall with about 150 miles max to the tankful - most of it probably goes out the tail pipe though with pops, bangs and flames on the overrun 😬 Ian, let's see that from your K series 😬 😬 Cheers Nick Yellow HPC - A 2.0 VX - 😬
stevefoster
Mr Locust, put a 1.8k on carbs or Throttle bodies for similar power output and it will not be any more economical than a vx. In real terms they are pretty similar. Hants (North) and Berkshire Area club site here My racing info site here
Johnty Lyons
And despite what Nick says it will also pop and bang and spit flames out the exhaust..... What is it with you Vx boys do you think you are the only ones having fun
k.russell
on a tank- full..... most about 155, worst about 85, as the guys above have said above about twice the fill ups as a K on a blatt, dont know how many on my new TB set up yet 😬 next? brakes? gearbox? driver? kevin R J457 DNU black-ali HPC
Badger Bill
Just to give you fellas some info... my old blade engined car got approx 110 miles on a tank... ...a 14 litre one. Of course I only ever drove it steadly, and hardly ever really went flat out on public roads... 😬 BB
Mr Locust
Nick I'd say there's more chance of seeing flames out of 'your' K (than the VX at least) Ian Green and Silver Roadsport 😬
Tiny Tim
Thanks for all the replies. I certainly do a fair share of pops and bangs on overrun. Can't see the flames from the drivers seat! What is the capacity of the standard fuel tank, is it 8 gallons? Tim
Paul McKenzie
Supposed to be 36 l, but I've never been able to get that much in. Mine, incidentally is 16-18 mpg normal, 8-10 mpg trackday..and that's with carbs tuned spot on, 3D mapped ignition and 220 bhp. Westfield
Nick I hope my wife doesn’t read this… I told her the new car will do at least 35 to the gallon! I will tell her I was misled by the seller! Tony
Sheds Moderator
The injection cars are usually OK. My 1.4kss does 35ish during normal quick touring and the 1.6s are similar. Obviously less if caned round a track. There's no fundamental reason why a correctly mapped inj engine should be thirsty in everyday use except that if you are regularly using 200 bhp then that doesn't come from fresh air. stevefoster
With EFI you can dial out the pops and the flames if you want to. Hants (North) and Berkshire Area club site here My racing info site here

Best start putting some miles on it then... 😬 Ian - out in the K last night and back home in the VX after swopping them over at their "winter" storage - quite funny as an X5 tried to overtake me on greasy roads as we approached a roundabout!
