shn7
Just tried to undo my flywheel bolts and one of the six rather than coming undone has started to round the head of the bolt. *mad* What's the best course of action to get it out without damage to the flywheel/crank and any oil seals? shn7
Hmm, only one I have in the right size is a Halford Pro. 1/4" drive. Wonder if it'll be up to the job? Will try later. Thanks Ex FA Steve.
shn7
Nope it wasn't. Or more precisely the 3/8" to 1/4" adapter wasn't. Need to buy a new one of those now along with a 13mm 3/8" or 1/2" drive six sided socket. Ho hum..... At least it didn't chew the bolt head any more. Thanks for the good advice Arnie. Steve. EFA
Steve, Get a impact wrench socket (the black ones sold in large halfrauds) You'll get one of those in 1/2" drive from 11mm up and you will struggle to break it! TomB
Or you could try and get hold of one of those 'Surface Drive' sockets. The inside of the socket has slightly curved edges so the turning force is applied to the flat of the hexagon sides rather than teh corners
Big Brother
Metrinch are great as they use the flats and fit almost anything. www.metrinch-tools.com Take a look at the RS website - http://rswww.com Type "Metrinch" into the search box. You can buy individual sockets and spanners as well as sets. Steve Se7en-Up! Now with added green! shn7
Bought a 6 sided 1/2" drive socket today and all bolts now loosened. Thanks to all for the advice, think I can stop sweating about having to take the whole engine to a workshop to get it out now. Steve.
