Sheds Moderator
I think LEDS are strictly speaking illegal. Other than that you can fit what you like. I'd try a few of the bike aftermarket shops, kit suppliers, Halfrauds BoyRacer section etc.
virtual7
Are u sure they are illegal? Third stop light is usually LED and I think London buses only have LEDs...
Laurence Wilson
I'm pretty sure Range Rover and Jag, among others, already use LEDs for their rear light clusters? I don't think they are illegal. Luke Beaumont
I may be wrong but my understanding of the situation is that LEDs are not illegal, but any lamp system featuring them needs to be E marked just as a bulb lamp would. More and more manufacturers are designing LED systems into their cars but the snag for us Caterham owners is the availability of generic bolt on lamp units with LEDs. Hella do a range which feature an LED brake light in a ring that surrounds a bulb type sidelight, but it's damned expensive.
Stevesvc
As said above LED light units that are "E" marked are fine for SVA & Mot. LED bulb relacements we have tried so far are WAY to dim. At SVC we have the UltraBright range of "E" marked LED rear lights & these fit into the carbon effect housings we stock. Have a look on the web site www.s-v-c.co.uk & call me if you want a chat on 08 456 581 251 Best regards Steve @ sVc

Stevesvc
LED Replacement bulbs – at shows and from mag. Articles, we have been buying LED replacement bulbs for a couple of years – even bought a few when at the Carlisle Kit Car show in the USA last year. The LED bulb replacements we have tried so far are WAY to dim. Most have “not road legal” or “for off road use only” printed on the packing, except those specified for reversing light use, as there is now light output specified for this light. The LEDs we supply under the UltraBright banner are 95 mm dia. The indicators are more expensive than the stop/tail, which seemed strange. When asked, the manufacturer explained that they had to use v expensive LEDs to get a good amber light output that would allow “E” marking. Bulb replacements with less than ½ the LEDs are not likely to be as good. They look bright on show, generally in a dark display area, but the light is generally being emitted in a very narrow beam. When put behind a defusing lens they become dimmer. Luke – Re. Fiat Coupe style lights. These are obtainable from the original makers, but as Fiat still own the tooling they are at “regular” makers spares price, no cheaper than going to a Fiat agent. In other words B expensive – sorry. Casbar
Maybe a daft question - But what happens when they fail ie blow or don't they? Does it mean replacing the whole unit
chimburt
LEDs last a very, very long time, and use less juice.
