  1. I've been pestering various local engineering places for some 0.001" shim stock without success. I can easily get an 8' roll of the pesky stuff, but I only need a fag packet sized piece. Anyone got any suggestions of the sort of industry that uses shim material, or better yet anyone got some they could post me for beer tokens / NTL? Not bothered whether it's steel /stainless /brass.
  2. Another set of RS Laser rims, this set are quite presentable. All the right dimensions for a Caterham and just £80 for the four. More info here.
  3. Hmm, OK I'll try but I would have thought it was a bit obscure for a factor. Might also try another Ford dealer to get a 2nd opinion.
  4. Just phoned up my Ford dealer for 4 of these, and fell of my chair when he told me £6 each! Probably plus vat as well. They are Ford part number 1637281. Do Redline or Caterham or somebody do these at a reasonable price?
  5. > That makes the delay about 0.4 of a second. Which OOI is the default value for the menu cascade delay on Windows. Doesn't sound like a lot but feels like a lifetime, and it's one of the first thing I change if I'm going to use a Windows install regularly. Rob, how about being too skint to afford a car new enough to be EU4?
  6. Junk it. Mine was registered from new without one, and has never caused a problem since.
  7. Just OOI, is it throttle by wire, or do you have a good old fashioned throttle cable? I sympathise with your plight, but have a nagging suspicion that the manufacturers have engineered out the throttle response, because Joe Average finds it 'jerky'.
  8. > weather users (they are race callipers, so not sealed)... I fall into both categories... I'm not sure it's worth fretting about this. I've had my 7500 mile JW Alcons apart, and aside from an even film of brake dust around the piston top there wasn't any sign of nastiness. It's also worth considering how few aftermarket calipers have full dust seals. Those that don't: Hispec Ultralites; Caterham AP big brakes; all the small Wilwoods. > If the Hi-Specs are available, that route sounds like a better-bet than the Pagids - > but would I need a comp master cylinder??? If I read the Hispec catalogue right, they use 4 x 34mm pistons which is very close to the area of 2 x 48mm Triumph pistons, so no.
  9. Must admit I'm in two minds about this as well. The heated 'stat is trick, and obviously has benefits but I wonder whether those benefits are worthwhile enough on a sports car that's got a fairly narrow range of use to justify the aggro. Dunno, maybe if Emerald get it singing sweetly it'll be less of a dilemma.
  10. There's charmap, or if you want to do the keyboard shortcut to insert the ASCII character for the pound sign, hold down the Alt key and type 0163 on the numeric keypad.
  11. That would be a blinder Norman. This isn't a long term requirement, but certainly no problem waiting a week or so for you to sort the paperwork.
  12. Only advice I can think of is to practise a few times on a bit of spare pipe to see what length proud of the clamp you need. The single flare is pretty easy but the double flare has a knack to it. Pretty important to get the former perpendicular to the pipe with the double flare.
  13. Does the SV use a bespoke, wider than widetrack rack, or is it just a normal widetrack rack with extension pieces? Looks like the former from Angus' CSR launch pics. How do the rack arms attach to the rack inside the gaiter? Are these arms available separately? TIA
  14. Got a dead hard drive near to hand? Dismantle it and retrieve one of the effing powerful magnets from the head servo. You'll probably have a hard time prising the magnet from the gearbox case.
  15. Search on t'web for "Gearcalc". It's a useful windows app for plotting gear ratios against engine & road speed. Has quite a few gearbox ratio sets programmed in, including the XR4 type 9.
  16. As title, need a set of standard rear handbrake calipers (Sierra style). Not that fussed about condition, nor even that they work fully (I've had these calipers apart to fix them numerous times). What ya got?
  17. With an HPC I guess you don't have to worry about a cat, so the only consideration with a bike can is whether it can silence enough. If it can, go for it! 205/60 is a common size rear for sevens, there is a 215 but it's 50 profile. See here.
  18. Snap On sockets fit the reduced head without any drama at all, if you know anyone who'll lend you one.
  19. Yes, with the hub centre removed you just have to remove the hub to get at the bearings. That part of the car is standard Ford Sierra, and you'll probably trash the shaft seals getting them out to gain access to the bearings. The discs are the same as std. fronts.
  20. Gah. I've looked on my Ford parts CD, which clearly gives ESA1296 as a Motorcraft number for the starter motor, yet motorcraft.com still doesn't like it.
  21. Best bet I think is some strategically placed self adhesive foam strip.
