Coolant Leak - Into Passenger Footwell ????

My 1.6 K has a small leak of coolant into the passenger footwell, it doesn't happen with the heater valve off, it isn't from the two small hoses that go to the valve under the bonnet, is the matrix cracked or is there something else that it could be ?

Youll find that it's one of the hoses from the valve to the matrix or their clips possibly the matrix but not normally unless the car is a reasonable age.

My matrix went a few years ago, so the car was probably only 5 years old. If you need a new one in a hurry then I seem to recall being told that it's from a Mini (assuming that it's the fresh air one).

Cant comment how the coolant got into the footwell as the "drainage" holes from the heater box (plastic type with "7" moulded into the front) lead into the engine bay.

 

My matrix sprung a leak & AFAIK it's not a servicable item. Caterham wanted over £180 + the dreaded for a complete new heater as they dont sell the matrix separately

 

However, Clayton who used to make the heaters still have three new matrixes left in stock. I paid £33 plus vat for mine a couple of weeks ago 😬
