7Up
The pump I used this evening was awful, kept spilling out so I pushed those green towels under the fuel cap to help catch excess fuel. The dye from the towels has stained both the paint work (small bit bottom left) and the protection film. I tried shampoo, tar remover, polish, nothing has removed it. All suggestions welcome! Member Jonathan Kay Posted May 8 Member Share Posted May 8 I'd start with ethanol or isopropanol. Put it on a clean cloth and rub gently. Test somewhere less prominent first. But... what was in the "tar remover". Or what product was it? Jonathan
PlastererPete
As Jonathan has said use Isopropyl Alcohol. It will potentially strip any waxes/polishes you have on there but shouldn’t affect the paintwork, but I’d test on an inconspicuous bit of PPF first as it may react with that. 7Up
thanks both. The tar remover was AutoGlym. they have a very comprehensive product sheet, it contains nasty stuff, Im wearing gloves next time!
Member Jonathan Kay Posted May 8 Member Share Posted May 8 Thanks. Autoglym "Intensive Tar Remover" is petrol-like and higher in the hierarchy of solvents than those alcohols. But I'd still start with them and work up. Jonathan PS: I have no experience of this sort of protective film. Is staining common?
7Up
interestingly the iso alcohol didn't really have much impact. Scratch removal (like a t-cut) did. Result! thanks for help
