Area Representative Steve Wright Posted March 26 Area Representative Share Posted March 26 Following an investigation into an ongoing speedometer problem, I found this wire not connected to anything. It's colour is brown and comes out of the connector on the Lucas box. Fixed on the vertical bulkhead under the dash. Immediately forward of the speedo and the steering wheel. Is it supposed to go anywhere? 🙂
Member Jonathan Kay Posted March 26 Member Share Posted March 26 That looks like a Lucas 5AS immobiliser; https://andrewrevill.co.uk/5ASCloningPart1.htm ... Does the immobiliser work as it should? And if it does could that be a feed to a siren or similar that isn't there any more?? Jonathan PS: Have you already got the relevant wiring diagrams? Area Representative Steve Wright Posted March 26 Author Area Representative Share Posted March 26 "Does the immobiliser work as it should?" I don't know, used it a couple of times when I got the car. On one occasion I couldn't unlock it to start the car, so I stopped using it. "And if it does could that be a feed to a siren or similar that isn't there any more??" Sounds possible. I would say that this 1996 car is almost totally original and hasn't been tampered with during my ownership of 24 years. Thanks for the feedback. Area Representative Steve Wright Posted March 26 Author Area Representative Share Posted March 26 Thanks Andrew! 👍 It's a sort of pinky/brown colour, mystery solved I reckon. It's been there for 28 years in all weathers so it probably started out as pink. Makes perfect sense when you know the answer. Thanks to Jonathan too. Gridgway
You have weather getting under the dash? That's strictly prohibited on my car!
