Stu Smith
Hello all, Doing a basic service this week on my 2010 Sigma 140 Supersport. Whereabouts would the fuel filter be located? I must say when I've been doing some odd jobs around the car I've never seen anything that resembles a fuel filter? TIA
John Vine
It's in the base of the fuel pump. To get at it, you need to remove the pump assembly.JV
Stu Smith
Thank you..Is the fuel pump located in the boot near the fuel tank, also would you know if it is a standard filter, something I can pick up from a motor factors?
John Vine
If you do plan to remove the pump assembly, this Guide will help. For info, when I removed my 2008 R400D pump in 2018 (after 42K miles) to adjust the float, I inspected the filter but found practically nothing in there.JV
ScottR400D
It's located in the tank, the filter is integral and not replaceable. It shouldn't need regularly cleaning.
John Vine
#3 Yes, the pump is mounted at the left-hand end of the tank. To get at it, you have to remove the boot floor. The filter is a fine mesh. All you have to do is rinse it out with petrol.JV

Stu Smith
Thank you, I'll give it a clean when I follow John's float adjustment guide.
Stu Smith
Filter now cleaned nothing in the mesh to be fair. Float also set as per John Vine's guide. Fiddliest job was manoeuvring the boot floor out from the roll bar..
John Vine
#10 Good news about the filter.Float also set as per John Vine's guide. Were you having problems with gauge accuracy?JV
Stu Smith
The gauge would stop at full for quite sometime then steadily go to 1/2 but I've never seen it go under the quarter mark..Which does make you try and gauge the miles done between 1/2 and just before the 1/4 mark. I haven't set the float to the bottom I've left it up a tad..My theory being when it gets close to the red I've still got a little bit more than that. (Not that I ever let it go down that low.) John Vine
#12: Mine was rather different, as you've probably discovered. Lowering the float worked for me. I'd be interested to hear how your gauge behaves after your modification.JV
Stu Smith
Update on readings.Filled the tank to the brim and went out. The gauge didn't seem to stay on the full mark for as long as before, although this is a guesstimate. The gauge did in fact for the 1st time since I've owned the car drop below the 1/4 full mark, I filled her back up when the needle hit the top of the red zone. I'm very happy with these results, no more guess work when on the 1/4 full mark.Stu.
John Vine
#14 Sounds like progress. Thanks for the feedback.IME, it's unusual for the gauge not to drop below 1/4 at all. I'm wondering whether your pump may have been misaligned in the tank, such that the float was touching the tank side at some point. Did you refit the pump in the same position as before?JV
Stu Smith
#15I like things straight, in-line or in this case at right angles. So I did move the position ever so slightly to achieve a right angle on the fuel line.
John Vine
#16 Can you recall the original position? I'm wondering whether yours was as bad as this recent factory-misaligned example:where the solid line illustrates the degree of misalignment.JV
Stu Smith
#17The alignment wasn't quite out as much as the illustration. If you struck a line between the base line and the solid line that would be more like it.
