Member Jonathan Kay Posted January 21, 2023 Member Share Posted January 21, 2023 There's a vast amount on this in the archives, unfortunately scattered across many threads.Do you want the full compliance of E marking?Do you want daylight running lamps?Do you want built-in indicators?...Does anyone know of any particular issues with doing this in a Seven of this era? I don't. Jonathan

OldAndrewE
I may be misinterpreting what I recall seeing but I remember seeing something that implied that LED bulbs could be used in vehicles that old without failing MOT
aerobod - near CYYC
Hi George,There is a lot of info here on Canadian lighting regulations, with Appendix B being specific to Alberta: https://brightsource.ca/Compliant%20Lighting%20Info%20CANADA%20062918.pdfThe best option if you want the lights to be road legal seems to be to use 7" retrofit headlight units for motorcycles that are ECE marked. krisfl
REPLY to #4: Thats right. LED bulbs can be fitted to a light, not originally designed for them on any car older than 1986."The MOT rules have been clarified from 22.3.21 to allow the use of LED conversions that pass the beam pattern tests for headlights for Class 3, 4, 5 and 7 vehicles (car, private bus and light commercial vehicle) first used before 1 April 1986 and all class1 and 2 motorcycles of any age."At that age (1969 Lotus 7) you're MOT exempt anyway. I used properly clocked and shaded LED bulbs in my '73 BGT. Its MOT Exempt, but I have the car "inspected" to keep it safe and compliant every 12 months anyway...If its younger, you have to stick to standard bulbs in the original units, or upgrade to suitable sealed LED units, E-marks etc and correctly adjusted to comply...More HERE
