RBTB Conversion

Hey Folks, 

I'm curious, and wondered whether anyone has any experience; is there a way of doing an RBTB conversion to a Duratec, but without cutting the bonnet ? 

Looking at various cars with RBTBs, it doesn't seem like it needs a lot of additional clearance, and I'm wondering whether there a set of shorter trumpets that would fit without taking a hacksaw to my paint :)

With standard RBs on an S3, I'd say no.  It's not so much the trumpets (which just fit within the bonnet line) as the backplate plus filter:

A smaller filter would be a no-no as there needs to be a minimum gap between the outer face and the trumpets.

I should add that getting the intake out from under the bonnet and into the colder airstream is a distinct improvement performance-wise.

Is using an air box assembly S3 cars CC part number 30E179C the easiest way to do it?
Plus hose etc and hole in bonnet.

Interesting thought, but I couldn't say, I'm afraid, as I know nothing about that airbox. In fact, I'm struggling to see what's wrong with the usual bonnet hole (other than the labour involved in cutting it).
