Events
I am currently on my first tour in a 7 in the North west of Scotland - utter bliss! Great weather, & Great roads. Thanks to Nigel Simpson North Scotland AR for all his help and suggestions. Such a great resource - thank you.My next trip is to the Peak District mid June. Staying in near Alfreton for 2 nights I would welcome any guidance for roads to drive, ones to avoid and any other helpful hints and tips? Similarly I may be spending a week based in Llandovery and would welcome the same for that area. All/any help very welcome.Being new to the club, is there an established resource on this site that I am missing that gives me the answers to the questions I've just asked. Many thanksMartin
Leadership Team RogNeedham Posted June 6, 2021 Leadership Team Share Posted June 6, 2021 Hi Martin,Know the Peak District very well. Often do early Sunday runs before breakfast. There's a great resource under Blats/Tours on which some excellent routes have been saved.Just need to remember that the PD is surrounded by large conurbations on all sides so most of the major more interesting roads do get busy quite quickly.Feel free to call on 07990 865869.all the best Rog
JonT
Peak district is ruined by a large number of roads having utterly ludicrous 50 limits.Loads of good roads around Llandovery. How far do you want to go?Obviously ones are the A4069 to Brynamman (as used by many car magazines and TopGear, although now also spoiled with a 40 limit), A4067. The A482 through Lampeter to Aberaeron is good (again, much of it 50 )A personal favourite is the white road from LLywel to Tirabad through the military rangesA little further afield the triangle around Newbridge - Garth - Upper Chapel - Builth Wells is epic. Continuing from Upper Chapel to Brecon also good.Further north still, the run across from Rhyader to Devils bridge is very pretty, single track in places but not normally too busy. oldboarder
I can certainly confirm that Roger knows the PD well following the run he gave the Leic/Notts/Derby group only the other Sunday.Have you used MYroute, that's available to club members. There are some good routes saved on there. https://www.lotus7.club/forum/blattour/new-blat-maps-functionality Martyn
Blackmamba
As JonT has suggested, the A4069 is a lovely road when quiet. There are some great roads out of Brecon heading north - B4520 to Builth is great or B4519 to Garth and then B4538. Carry on up to Rhayader and take the B4518 until Llanbrynmair. For something more scenic, take the the road from Beulah to Tregaon over the Abergwesyn Pass.So many good roads and routes its hard to go wrong.
