richardhomer Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 I would like to chat with anyone who has fitted an lsd to a CSR in regard to any disadvantages for normal road use. eg. is it more prone to snap oversteer.a PM and contact number would be appreciated fo anyone prepared to discuss their experience. Thanks.
David Brown Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 My CSR came with a Quaife which some may criticise but I find it excellent for road use. Believe they can't stand up to hopping over kerbs particularly if racing but not relevant to my use.
Alan Reeves Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 K7, no they did not all have LSD fitted, mine didnt have one
K7 VCT Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 Wow, as a flagship you would have thought would have. Or perhaps the independent rear helped with traction so much, CC didn't fit as standard
sjmmarsh Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 The very early ones did have an LSD, but they stopped before I bought mine in 2007 (I now have a Titan fitted). A lot of the early ones were bought as weekend toys by people with big bonuses - you can spot them as they are normally in BMW/Audi colours (black/blue/silver) and are likely to have needed a fresh rear end... I upgraded mine as on a damp road I was aware of the rear wheels alternately gaining/losing grip, which effectively was a form of traction control, but I didn't like the feel at all, hence the upgrade (I was sprinting it at the time as well). The car is now much more stable I and controllable in corners, but you do need to respect it in the wet - full throttle on a bend will bring the back end round very quickly, so you need to use the throttle pedal for traction control, rather than the failsafe of just one wheel losing grip with an open diff. paul jacobs Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 Hi Richard,When I bought my CSR in 2005, the year they were first announced, CC didn't recommend the fitting of an LSD for road use, as with the better rear suspension and wider rear tyres, they felt there was enough grip, however I had been sprinting/hillclimbing for 10 years and there was a thought I might continue with the CSR, so I ordered it with a ZF plate diff. with modified ramp angles. In the end I didn't compete with it and used it solely on the road, but didn't find any downsides with the ZF lsd, nor incidentally did I notice any improvement either, other than when wanting the tailout for a bit of drift practice. I felt the advice of CC was correct, that there wasn't any point in fitting it for the road, but it could be very useful in competition.
