Oil cooler issue

Recommended Posts

After converting my crossflow to a pressurised cooling system I ran it up to temperature (when the cooling fan cut in) to check for any leaks etc.  However while doing this I noticed that my oil cooler, that sits in front of the rad. remained absolutely stone cold.

So before I try not to make a big mess on the garage floor taking it all out and seeing what's happening, anybody any thoughts or suggestions, or previous experience of this?

many thanks

Assuming your wet sump...?

If you have a thermostat in your take off plate then this will only allow full flow to the cooler once the prescribed temp has been achieved usually circa 82-92 degrees C

In the mean time oil will circulate normally around the engine with a small bleed into the cooler to keep this pressurised too.

Ran mine up to fan cutting in in the garage the other day, the water was showing 95C the oil 55C so don't think just getting the water up there and turning off is enough to get the oil to the point it is flowing through the cooler.
