Olgawld
Long shot I know, but. About to finally start putting my xflow back together and I need a double width tensioner pad to fit my new duplex chain setup. I've tried Burton's etc but can't find one anywhere. Don't suppose anyone has one lying around, new or decent second hand is fine. Thanks
Guy Lowe
Have you tried Dunnell's? http://www.dunnellengines.com/home.php

Olgawld
Will do Ed. Just tried Wilcox Engines in Hinckley on the phone. F**k me, that bint that answers the phone is rude as hell. Just put the phone down on her, she was so blunt and aggressive and arguing with me. Will keep ringing round other places.
Ed White
pmsl, she usually speaks well of you :)
Olgawld
I doubt she speaks well of anybody. I asked politely if she had the part and her very, very short reply was, "don't exist!" I tried to explain to her, yes they do, I've used them before, but nope, " don't exist, no such thing" yes I said I bought previously from Burton's but at moment they're on back order, "you don't know what you're talking about, no such thing" He's a lucky fella having her, such a warmth about her. Ed White
lol, some people are blessed with waking up each morning to enjoy the day. She probably isn't one of them!
Tazio
Just to put a little balance, that 'bint' is John Wilcox's wife....takes no prisoners and usually responds in the same manner as the caller, in all my dealings with them both during my BDR rebuild, they have been nothing but professional. elie boone
I vouch for Wilcox, i had a problem with my brand new BDR and despite they didn't build it they ware very helpful and provided the date i needed.
7 wonders of the world
They do exist, used both single and double over the years, one here:https://www.advancedautomotives.co.uk/tensioner-pad-double-width-ford-xflow--pre-xflow-4655-p.asp
Olgawld
Cheers for that 7 wonders. I've already spoke to them and are out of stock. I've now tried about a dozen places and all said are on back order or out of stock. Regarding the phone call and other people's comments. Maybe you've caught her on a good day or I caught her on a bad day, but she was damn right rude with me and very aggressive. Calling her "a bint" was perhaps out of order but I was fuming at the time and probably my mistake coming on here straight after speaking to her. Anyway I'll say no more about her. What I'm thinking of doing now after reading up about it is to use a single width pad from Ford, this apparently works ok and according to lots of people the standard of the pads from Burton's are pretty rubbish anyway. 7 wonders of the world
I agree, depending on sump and front cover ISTR from my Pre and x/flow days that there was somethines a fouling issue so using the single width pad worked perfectly well. Bricol
Why a duplex chain anyway? As an engineer, I'd consider a single row chain fine for the loads involved for single cam OHV engine. So I went with Mr and Mrs Wallage's recommendation that a single row chain is perfectly adequate - over decade of (ab)use later, still going strong. Olgawld
Yeah I know, a single chain would have been fine, after all the engine had done 30000 miles with no problem. But I had a duplex setup in the drawer in the shed which I've had a while and thought now's a good time to use it.
