John Vine
While out and about yesterday, enjoying the fine Dorset sunshine, I picked up some stone damage to my RH rear wing. This is the standard CC part (in black), and not carbon fibre. There's a sizeable chip (about 8 mm across) in the fibreglass, and a small crack in the wing itself:Is there a simple way to repair this? I don't want to have to replace the wing if I can avoid it.JV
DJ.
It is certainly possible to repair, but all the cracked are needs.to be groung out and built up in layers, then filled and sprayed. I had minor damage (but worse than yours) to my rear wing and decided it was better to fit a new one as a yellow gel coat wing was £138 including vat. I could repair the glass myself, but would have to pay for spraying and I think that wouldn't be far ofg the cost of a new wing.Duncan
Titanium7
No simple way as it's the gelcoat that's damaged not only as a chip but star cracked as well. If it was me I'd investigate a 'Chips Away' type business and see what they can suggest and it's cost.
John Vine
Thanks, chaps. Actually, it looks far worse in the photo than on the car (due to the flash, I guess)! And thanks for the ChipsAway suggestion -- I'll get in touch with them. At least a replacement would be straightforward as the wing is a bog-standard CC part. JV
ECR
I'm dealing with almost exactly the same thing John (after a trailer jumped out on me at Cadwell !). Filling and sanding wasn't too onerous and then I tried refinishing with black gloss aerosol which wasn't really successful. Its now at a body shop for spraying and the best price they would give me was £100.00. Given the price of a new standard wing, that's what I'd go for (mine are extra wide ......) John Vine
Yes, you could well be right, Roger. I'll see what the quote says. JV
