Paul Philpot
Apologies for my mechanical incompetence... can someone please identify what this is lurking under my coil?
revilla
Charcoal canister. Absorbs fuel vapours from the tank and then vents them into the engine when running to reduce emissions.
revilla
... although it doesn't seem to be fully plumbed in as I can only see one pipe and one union left open.
Wrightpayne
I took mine off last year and put a sytec fuel valve in the boot (to let air into the tank but stops fuel coming out) - lots in the archives about fuel valve and a Caterham workshop notice (WN371).Ian
Paul Philpot
I'm currently replacing coil, leads, alternator and starter motor. Should I replace this as well or just leave it where it is, seems to be doing no harm just sitting there.
Wrightpayne
I've never heard of one being replaced on Blatchat, removed yes!Either leave alone or remove it. The valve needed to remove it was <£15 IIRC.As Andrew suggests it doesnt look connected properly anyway - Mine was connected, using fuel hose, to a rigid plastic pipe going down the transmission tunnel and terminated at the filler neck in the boot. Where does the rubber hose go that exits the picture at 6 o'clock?Ian
