rj
Where do you want to start with the weight saving? You can cut out at least 3kgs of wires. You can shorten a lot of the boltsChange some of them with plastic, aluminium or titaniumGundrill the upper steering columnFit Mike Barnby wheelsMill down the rear hubs between the studs to reduce the thickness.Have made carbon wings / nose with fewer layersCarbon / Kevlar TilletsNitrons are lighter than the BilsteinsAero wishbones weigh around 1.1kg less than non-aerCarbon light blocksI could go on (Having "adjusted" min to be a SillyLight - it comes in around 440kgs dry with a rear exit exhaust that came in at a penalty of 10kgs)

rj
The lower part of the upper column is hollow already. This is to enable the lower part to slide in in the event of a collision.Of course, you have to stop before the lock ring leaving some material. It is a little boresome to do, but it saved 297g.The steering wheel hasn't fallen off my car yet. I suppose it's done 7-10k miles like that.(by the way: I have no boot floor either, nor have I a steering lock)
Alan Bowler
Boot floor - I thought that was "safety" so have kept as standard.

nickh7
Yep, one evening in the pub we worked out the cost a fellow member had spent to save 12kg and worked it out he’d have saved a fortune if he’d gone to Weight Watchers
Alan Bowler
I'm looking for approx weight of car only for this. Relates to towing weight.Lighter wheels are a possible option, but £££. Can't use ACB10s.

rj
the claimed weight is dry. That is without any fluid. So is the figure I mentioned for my own car. There's around 5kgs water and 10kgs of oil (engine, gearbox and diff). Then add petrol at around 0.85kg/l. nickh7
Is it the tow car that’s the issue? I know a few caravans (yes I know , I am sorry but I try talking to them they may convert) and they tell me that modern cars are making for poor towers because of weight restrictions. You might have to change your tow car
Alan Bowler
You are right Nick, but for various reasons (not least money) I don't want to buy a new tow car right now. I think I just need to take time off and get the 7 weighed as a proper reference and then weigh parts I replace.
Alan Bowler
For the record - those helpful people at PGM still had a record of the weight from 2012: 604 Kg with me. Taking into account me, plus weight difference between SLR cage and the FIA bar + strut fitted in 2012, heavier exhaust, and some weight savings since then... I make it about 525!
