Area Representative Richard Price Posted September 12, 2018 Area Representative Share Posted September 12, 2018 Justin,I'm using a GoPro Hero4 black.Up until last year, I'd been using an old bullet cam and a separate solidstate recorder, and, most importantly, a separate mic located under the dash to pick up engine sound, but not wind. It was only 640x480 resolution, but adequate to watch what was happening. Unfortunately, it packed up a few days before Rockingham :-(I specifically chose the Hero4 black (which I bought "factory refurbished") for its choice of field of view (I normally use the "narrow" setting), its ability to be used with an external microphone, and WIFI.The WIFI is particularly useful to be able to review each run without having to remove the camera from its housing.I'd borrowed Tom's Hero4 black to use at Rockingham, and pulled a muscle twisting to try to make it record, so I've since invested in a WIFI remote so that I can operate the camera whilst strapped in the car and know its recording. There are lots of cheap microphone adaptors available, but, they normally only record one channel. I'm now using one that records the same mono signal to right and left audio channels.I only ever record at 720P resolution. It still looks great on a 40" TV screen, so no need for any higher! Dobson_justin
Thanks. Someone at work tried a cheaper camera previously and ended up with a go pro, I guess you get what you pay for. Looks like that will be a job once I get a new car!i know how many times you watch your videos back, so Mrs Price has a long winter ahead with you taking control of the 40” TV on an evening!
