Paul Mason
Does anyone out there in 7 land have a set of 25mm deep throttle body spacers lying around to suit a Jenvey DTH 42mm set up on a 1.8k. I am in the process of (trying) to go from airbox to dome filter and have hit a couple of hurdles in the process. I believe that a set of spacers from Jenvey will help me clear the chassis rail and clutch cable but before I commit to (yet more) expenditure, just want to be sure that it will work with a mock up and I don't end up with more bits that don't fit. I will of course pay for postage to and from, and also willing to make a donation to a good cause of your choice if anyone out there has some and would be kind enough for a short term loan?As I say, I know its probably a bit of a longshot.............but hell, optimism never hurtsTa's in advancePaul
7 wonders of the world
Have you considered get an airbox from Bernard Scouse, they are a perfect fit for the DTH Jenveys and the airbox clears the injectors, chassis and clutch cable http://www.auto-teknix.co.uk/Caterham.html
Paul Mason
That's actually the exact one I have on the car with the ducting to the filter in the nosecone. It does fit perfectly but actually trying to go to a dome filter instead (though having not a great deal of luck so the airbox is back on for the time being). 7 wonders of the world
I had one of Bernards on my tweeked K and we did back to back power runs on Emeralds rollers, with no box, then with box but no air filter, then with the air filter.Power was a nats down on top end but nothing you would notice however we gained a little torque with the box on.I ran mine with the Pipercross cone directly on the airbox
Paul Mason
Thanks 7WOTW, interesting that it didn't impact power and actually increased torque, I'm surprised at that. However, in truth (as daft as this may sound) my main reason for changing to the dome is driven by aesthetics and the desire for a bit more induction noise more than performance (I had thought that performance would just be a nice by product). Out of interest, do you have the 90mm trumpets? What size filter do you have on the end of the box as the one I have won't fit right at the end of the box (the cone end is too big)
ECR
If you just want to mock up an installation use a 25mm piece of wood as the spacer .... you only need 3 (?) fixing holes and no holes into the cylinders as it wont be run
Paul Mason
Not a bad idea ECR, it is just to check the clearances with the additional movement of the backplate away from the TB's. Thinking about it a flat rectangle of wood at 25mm depth attached with a few fixings will let me see if it all works. Ta's for the idea (seems obvious now you've said it)
Manstein
Your certainly very patient Paul I felt worthy of the Nobel prize after changing the mirrors!
7 wonders of the world
If its character noise your after I will happily send you a few decibels from my Duratecs 52mm TB's, the whole filter is external and she absolutely howls once on song........ , been out this morning in her around Wales......... I'm surprised you didn't hear me...
Paul Mason
Chris......patient or perhaps determined or just a downright stupid belligerent insistence on trying to get something which in truth I probably don't ultimately need ha ha! (Delete as you see appropriate) 7WOTW.....please do, sounds like just what I'm after! I love the sound of my car "on song" (k series which is fairly modified), so much so that I want to supplement it with some additional and complementary induction rortiness
Manstein
Paul why not get the wife to blow a hunting horn as we pass through various habitations tomorrow as some small compensation till you get the induction fettled?
Paul Mason
There enough droning from that side of the car already Chris.......
