Dannyboy
Well..after a great morning of competition after the disaster at Loton my car finally cried enough. 7000rpm in 4th at the end of Lavant straight just before braking into Woodcote, video showing me just over a second up on my previous time Mr valve decided that he wanted to go exploring. He was met with some force by mr piston. Thanks to all who loaned tools and sympathy on Saturday. Engine was torn apart this afternoon to reveal this... I think it’s safe to say it’s done. Head is scrap. Liner cracked I think through the piston expanding as it hit the valve. This flooded the cylinder. I presume that the rod attached to the ‘slightly Used piston’ is also dead. For those wanting to see my engine and it’s special internals..err..they are there.. it’s fairly ugly. however replacement head has been bought (good old eBay) and looking at replacement block currently to see the year out. I can’t see it being done for Curborough or blyton but will hopefully be done sometime this year. The pics below

Grahame W
DanSo sorry the day ended up like this made me look across the office to some of my 'momentoes' of when Mr Con Rod wanted some fresh air at EppyntIf you are buying bits in and need stuff collecting and/or delivering I'm sure we can organise a delivery chain to get the bits to you so you can get back at the earliest opportunity and return to the status quo where several us in the mid field just look at each other after your first runs and chant 'How many seconds quicker!!!! 'Good luckGrahame
Dannyboy
Thanks Grahame.A new head is being collected by my friend Sean on Saturday on his way over with our god daughter and family for a weekend of R&R in my garage.. VVC engine i’m Going to pick up Saturday morning. Headset is here, as is new spigot bearing and CRB. Just need to get new cambelt. Then- we shall commence with creation of ‘frankinengine’ with my cams going in the standard head, mated to the new block. Hopefully when apart it won’t be too horrific with liner heights etc. The desire is to have an operational engine by Sunday night and a VVC head to play about with in creation of something for the future. Hopefully the engine will last, but we shall see! Mine is currently resting in the car but i’ll Get the rest out Friday night when I get back from 2 days training in Manchester on how to be a good boy working on the railway.. if so, and it doesn’t make nasty noises in the garage and feels ok on a road test.. you may see Matt and I at Curborough. Optimistic perhaps.. but that’s the goal.i May cut the head into pieces as well as remove the damaged piston, might be a nice trophy eh Chris? Leadership Team Mcalvert Posted May 2, 2018 Leadership Team Share Posted May 2, 2018 Fingers crossed it all comes together in time Danny. Even if it isn’t possible to get your engine back together in time, hope we’ll see you at Curbs anyway. There are plenty of other class 3 competitors who I’m sure wonder what times their cars might be capable of (myself included) and who would be delighted to offer a dual drive... Dannyboy
Michael.thank you for the kind words.. i’m Unconvinced on whether people are that keen on offers however!! I shall know by Sunday whether the old ‘shed’ is going to limp out of the garage or not.. after that then i’m Open to offers from anyone!!
Tony Smith
Ok Dan, if yours is not running you can jump in mine. It would be an honor as well as very educational and I am sure, quite embarrassing!!!I even have a booster seat that fits into my bag seat, so you may even be able to reach the pedals!!!!Tony
