Mark Gregory
Hello ElieA Classic Grads car with X-flow & Spax dampers is likely to be 1996 ish vintage. Here is a link to the Grads regulations, scroll down to 5.8.1, it may not give you all the info. you require, but it's a starting point:https://barc.blob.core.windows.net/barcnet/2017-championship-reg-wlz68.pdf
elie boone
Thanks Mark, that gives me the front spring rate, I will try to find out the rears, I guess a call to McMillan should solve it.
Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted January 5, 2018 Area Representative Share Posted January 5, 2018 ElieThe https://www.graduates.org.uk/ will know, I'm sure. The rears on my 1996 Crossflow Scholarship car are the progressive "standard" springs. I have a set of spares (taken from my 21 which wallowed a bit with the progressives due to the additional weight at the back of the car).
Matthew Willoughby
Redline sorted me out when I need new Spax springs/dampers for my Classic Grad.
elie boone
they only have knowledge of std springs for Spax dampers without adjustable platforms.
Roger Ford
From the regs (link as above):b. Rear: Live Axle (baffled). Lower A frame and upper radius arms. Standard progressive coil springs over Bilstein dampers (Caterham part No: 75524). c. It is permitted to fit adjustable spring platform kit (Caterham part no. DSSU01). Addition circlip grooves may be machined into the dampe body to allow for ride height adjustment. So the springs are the standard ones fitted to Billies, with the adjustable dampers as an addition. If you've got Spax dampers then it's probably not standard, or not a Classic Grad. Mark Gregory
Hmmm... not sure about that Roger. My 1996 X-flow, purchased from Kim in 2000, had Spax dampers fitted, without adjustable platforms. I cannot remember if the dampers themselves were adjustable. I replaced them with the optional parts defined in 5.8.1 (ii) ©. This allowed me to set the car up properly with a corresponding improvement in grid position.I suspect Spax dampers were fitted to X-flow Scholarship cars & Bilsteins fitted when the VX engines were introduced (1997?), but I have no evidence to support my premise. I wonder if Andy Mac knows.Edit: Too slow, beaten by Charles again.........!

Matthew Willoughby
Spax dampers were fitted to all Scholarship cars up to and including 1998, the first year with Vauxhall engines. 1999 cars had Bilsteins. My 1998 car had Spax fitted until I put Bilsteins on it last winter.
Mark Gregory
Thanks Matthew.I'm pleased to find that my supposition was partially correct.Do you still work for Fisher German? Following our meeting a number of years ago I'm in touch with Neil Hogbin & Ben Longstaff at the Ashby office.
elie boone
Made a bespoke spring compressor from an old car jack, makes it really easy to change springs, no danger anymore that the hook like on a traditional compressor would slip away ( can't do any pictures )
