Brian Deacon
Just sorting a small leak on the radiator fan switch and noticed that the bottom hose sits on top of the chassis. The radiator mounting bobbins are all fine so its not dropped recently, probably been like it since build. The radiator side flanges have four mounting holes each side , and mine is located on the upper holes. Moving it to the lower holes would raise the radiator about 2cm. But then might be to close to the nose cowl. Before I try it could somebody tell me where theirs is mounted. Its a 1997 1.6 K series Roadsport. Wrightpayne
On mine I drilled 4 holes inbetween as when using the lower holes the rad touched the nosecone.Ian
Brian Deacon
Thanks Ian. I will do the same. Brian
Member Jonathan Kay Posted May 6, 2017 Member Share Posted May 6, 2017 As well as the choice of existing holes and Ian's option there's an observation in the archives that the bobbins sag. Spinning the bobbin so that the sag is the other way up might give the required hoick.Jonathan
Brian Deacon
The bobbins seem to be the opposite of "sagged", maybe held up by the bottom hose!

Brian Deacon
Given the K series engine dislike of losing coolant and overheating then having a rubber hose chafing against a metal object does not seem to be ignorable ?
Member Jonathan Kay Posted May 8, 2017 Member Share Posted May 8, 2017 I read that as "Ignore this post" rather than "Ignore the rubbing"...Do you need any more responses on how other radiators are mounted?Jonathan

Roger King
Hoses chafing on things is one of the biggest causes of car failure in motorsport. Some people (not on here obviously) I have worked with in the past seemed unable to understand that it must be avoided and consequently suffered problem after problem. If it's unavoidable, a simple trick is to take a short length of hose the same or slightly larger diameter than the working hose, slit it along its length and then cable tie it around the working hose at the point of chafing. It doesn't stop the problem, but it transfers it to a sacrificial piece of rubber that can be kept an eye on and replaced as necessary.
Wrightpayne
Roger, youve describe what I've done with the top hose, between the water rail and rad, as it touches the upper RHS nosecone fixing bracket - simply slipped a bit of bike inner tube between the hose and bracket.
