Leadership Team RogNeedham Posted December 30, 2016 Leadership Team Share Posted December 30, 2016 following recent MOT which noted that I have play in the lower 'ball' (4 below) and the ARB - looking at CC website they do not seem to sell a droplink the same as (4) and (3) together. I now have 3 &4 removed as one unitany ideas?cheersRogdroplink.tiff
PROBE2
RogI recently done this. Caterham only sell the links, you need two for each side of car. Then re use the threaded rod that connects the links together. Getting the rods off can be tricky if seized on otherwise straightforward job.i used a bike spanner to tighten the links as space limited.Paul
Leadership Team RogNeedham Posted December 30, 2016 Author Leadership Team Share Posted December 30, 2016 Thx Paul,I have ordered 2x CC part no 72120. (assumed one for each side, until i realised the CC parts didn't include the extension piece)How did you separate the ball on 'extension piece' (3) from the cup on droplink (4)?CheersRog
PROBE2
Rog, use the bike spanner, there should be a flat on the ball link to stop it rotating you can then remove the extension piece with spanner, cheers
John Vine
Rather than order 72120, the rod ends (72118) are available separately, and cheaper that way too. (Probably a bit late for you now, though.)JV
PROBE2
If the complete link is available then I would go with that for small extra cost, that way don't have to remove threaded rod
AdrianC
Also had an issue with mine at a MOT.Replacement parts can all be sourced from here http://www.automotioncomponents.co.uk/en#and a lot cheaper than CC
Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted December 31, 2016 Area Representative Share Posted December 31, 2016 Dry drop links wear out quiet quickly. Before fitting the new drop links lubricate the ball end cups with a good quality automotive Lithium based grease. You will need to remove the curved wire locking wire carefully from the base of the cup then with the whole link in a vice carefully prise out the ball by applying some angular force to the end of the thread.Carefully though be aware of the rubber seal ! To refit just push the ball in with moderate force to ensure it is seated, wipe off excess grease & refit lock wire.I carry out this process annually. The current set of links fitted to my car have so far lasted three years without any signs of wear. The first set lasted a year dry.
Leadership Team RogNeedham Posted December 31, 2016 Author Leadership Team Share Posted December 31, 2016 that's great ...thanks all for responses. Must admit I haven't found the locking wire. I'll take a closer look :)thanks againRog

Leadership Team RogNeedham Posted December 31, 2016 Author Leadership Team Share Posted December 31, 2016 although I've had the car 6 yrs now, this is one of the few jobs I've not had to do before. It appears someone has had a a 'go' :) - the flat has been rounded off and (at least on the nearside), there are only the remains of what I assume was the rubber seal...to be resumed in 2017 Happy New YearRog
John Vine
...the flat has been rounded off... The lug on the stud is circular with two flats, so it could be that it's undamaged.JV
ChrisC
FYI Caterham do sell the link on its own (not as an assembly) which is much cheaperhttps://caterhamparts.co.uk/anti-roll-bars/3334-ball-droplink-anti-roll-bar.htmlChris.

cr500dom
I got enough parts, in stainless steel, from wixroyd to do this at far less cost than CC
