Caterham 40th anniversary K series 1600 supersport.

Ruby red metallic with silver stripe & noseband. Black windscreen & stanchions, 5 ¾” black headlamps, flared wings, number 52 plaque on dashboard.

1600 K series EU2 supersport fitted with Apollo tank. Caterham 6 speed gearbox with aluminium gear knob. FIA single diagonal roll bar painted in body colour. Engine is running the original supersport cams, but was modified by DVA in 2007. Omega forged pistons with single tang rods. Fully ported head, piper verniers, lightweight flywheel. Powerspeed 4-2-1 repackable exhaust system, 52mm throttle body. Less than 2000 miles ago the car had a refresh at DVA. The engine was stripped down and new liners, rings, big ends, valve stem seals were fitted. The head was stripped, cleaned and all valves cleaned and lapped.  It has the correct steel dowels, and uprated head gasket fitted. Red silicon hoses throughout including heater hoses, later type aluminium radiator fitted. Around the same time, I fitted new plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm, and also replaced the fuel filter. I’ve never had the car dyno’d, but it’s probably around 150HP. For some reason, this has always been a very fast car, and doesn’t seem to have any trouble keeping up with R300’s.

Around 3000 miles ago, the car had a complete new clutch assembly fitted, new rear brake caliper, new brake fluid, new rear crankshaft seal. This work was carried out by Chris at the 7 workshop, and I have all the bills, for all the above work.

The car was first registered in March 1998 and I am the third owner. During the 12 years I have owned the car, I have meticulously looked after it, and done most of the regular servicing myself. Many items have been replaced over the years. New A frame & bushes. De Dion tube is the later stronger type with the welded supports for the suspension dampers. Approx 3 years ago I stripped the front suspension, re-powder coated the suspension arms, fitted new dampers, new springs, new rod ends, new rack gaitors, new anti roll bar. This all still looks nearly new, with none of the rust you so often see on the front suspension of a Caterham. New nosecone was fitted around 4 years ago (the type which covers the wishbone bolts, and front chassis member), and this plus both front wings were repainted by Tony at TSK, and then paint guard fitted. The underbody is in excellent condition, and fully coated with Waxoyl, any inspection welcome.

The dashboard is leather coated, leather tunnel top, and leather S type seats. Handbrake is in tunnel top. The seats are not original either, as I replaced these a few years ago, with a pair of used newer ones. All of the interior is in very good condition. Dash is fitted with a fan override switch wired via a relay with indicator lamp. Two position switch for reading water & oil temperature. LED engine start switch. Mechanical oil pressure gauge fitted, as I got fed up with the useless electrical version! Caterham 4 point harnesses fitted. Mesh map pocket in passenger footwell, and also on bulkhead between the seats, soft bits tunnel bag. Two ignition keys, and two remote plippers. Full hood and hoodbag, although I have never used this! Sidescreens in good condition except slight bubble in plastic window on passenger side, where it was stored with something pressing against it. Millwood wrap around stoneguards fitted to rear wings. The bodywork is generally in very good condition (as I am a bit of a polisher!), although obviously there are some stone chips here and there. High level brake light fitted to rollbar diagonal. Reversing light and fog light replaced with 100mm LED units. Full Tonneau cover with pockets for headrests. Soft bits MK1 half hood.

15” Prisoner wheels shod with Toyo R1R tyres. Rear tyres nearly new, fronts with over 5mm tread. All wheels in excellent condition, no kerbing/peeling. Spare wheel carrier is not fitted, as I removed this many years ago. I still have it, and it could be modified to make it a removeable type. This will be included, as will the original spare wheel which has never been on the road, and is in mint condition. I also have 4 more Prisoner wheels with bald tyres, and some marks on the rims. If buyer wants these, they are welcome to them FOC.

The car is currently MOT’d until middle of June, and if necessary I’m quite happy to MOT it for 12 months if buyer is serious, but I will need some notice, as I can only get this done at a weekend. Mileage is currently 58024. I have a stack of bills for all the works/parts I’ve replaced over the years, and all MOT certificates.

A C7 plate is currently fitted. Really not sure whether to keep this, but might sell with car for £250 plus any fees if buyer is interested in it.

Asking price is £11,950, which I think is reasonable. Anyone interested can send me a private mail via Blatchat, or telephone 07720067763. This is a business number, so I may not always be able to take the call, but please leave a message, and I’ll call you back.

That is one of my top 5 7s, it looks fantastic with the clams, beautiful.

I can honestly say this 7 has been cherished and the lucky person who buys this will be so pleased.

That price cant be right for a 7 of that quality.

Good luck with sale Nigel and hope your not out of the fold for good.

Thanks Guy's for your comments, I'm sure you all had a hand in confirming to potential buyers, that this is a pretty decent car, and generating interest in it. I'll endevour to make Penn this month, and raise a glass to the passing of an era!
